As soon as you start applying for jobs, and you have to fill out your Indeed.com and your LinkedIn.com and etc., you remember why you hate the world.
Discussion
I feel this in my bones. and when you start applying for any job it feels like no one really gives a shit unless you have the papers that they want to see. So you apply to a bunch of places and get mostly generic rejections or nothing at all.
Also them: It is so hard to find qualified staff.
Right, when applying for a sysadmin job, I realized that having five years working in an ITAR environment and successfully doing the transition from a normal enterprise network to an ITAR-style environment meant something, but I didn't have any sort of certification, so apparently none of that experience matters.
Yup. I was at a startup for the past 7 years so my experience is so scattered I have about 6 resumes I tailor for a given field. I'm nowhere near close to a niche it's whack
AI reads and presorts the applications and it's looking for specific things.
I also keep seeing mentions of some certification that I don't have, as I started working in the field before the certification was invented. Oh well.
I wonder if you could figure out the text that they scanned for and then put your normal resume and then just put those text that the AI scans for in like white lettering on a white background. I'm sure they have filters for that kind of shit, but that was one thought that I had.
Having seen what my other half has had to contend with I don’t think a human even sees most the applications.
Some arbitrary data points are fed into a computer and applications are auto filtered.
It’s a load of bollocks.
Can you name a time in your previous employment when you went above and beyond....
you mean... high?
Yes all of the above. ⬆️
Proven track record blah blah blah
Every field on LinkedIn be like, Get the premium account and our AI will fill generate everything!
🤣
I just keep thinking "they should already know who I am" 😅
Fr. Especially because it's like, please fill out all of these online forms, mail us a CV and cover-letter, share your LinkedIn profile, and etc.... and it's just repeating the same data over and over.
This coulda been an email. 🫤
It's torture! I'm sorry you don't have recruiters banging down your door. You should!
I'm so fed up with that.
We need to figure out how to work for and with each other for cash... better yet, for bitcoin!
Because there is no future in always working to advance the agenda of others.
I've worked for other's since 7 years old. 20+ in government.
I was dead inside, and almost dead on the outside as well.
The more we work IN the system, the less we can get out of it because our minds become atrophied by all the obedience and their rules we must follow.
We need to be out of the system by making our own peer to peer network of labor, goods and services.
We just have to.
Absolutely. I've been really diging into what I could offer for other folks in the almost-tech space and been slowly updating my website in the bg. Having an obsession of doing engineery things makes it way more difficult to do normie things which is why I think some of us trend toward working for others. I'm new to the professional tech space so I'm still figuring this stuff out
Or I guess there are conflicts: I need money, but what I want to work on doesn't make money now and probably won't for a while but I don't want to give up on it!
Don't ever give up.
None of us need money, we need what we can get with money.
Perhaps we may also have to learn how to connect with folks with whom one can barter as well.
I dream of being able to offer both goods that I can make because I'm very artistic and creative, and services because I love caring for the elderly and young children.
I don't know how, but that's what I want to be involved with, and there's a huge need for both: child and elderly care.
I dream of being able to find a solution to covering those gaps where both caretakers and care recipients benefit.
There has to be a way for our children and our elders to be cared for!!!!
(While making bitcoin art too, of course!)
One thing I've been thinking of is linkedin... I want to vomit but nearly every application asks for your profile. I just don't want to compete on there. Is it possible to just create a simple profile and not have to actually interact on it?
you'll know you've made it when you no longer need linkedin 😮💨
I actually got invited to apply for this job, but they want LinkedIn as application data because reasons. 🤷♀️
This isn't the first time that I've had someone suggest a job to me and the application process was so onerous, that I didn't complete it.
I don't have all these systems setup.
Can't they just read the data out of my CV? I've been trying to fill in LinkedIn forms for almost an hour, now. indeed just scanned it. LinkedIn is ancient tech, fr.
The whole platform feels less about jobs and more about an excuse to spend time using social media
Also sort of creepy how it tries to hook me up with people from the job I just quit. I have nothing against them, they're all nice people, but it's like...
Are we expected to be homies 4evah?
The funniest thing is that I wanted to apply for a specific job and they forced me to setup a LinkedIn account to apply, and now recruiters are contacting me about other jobs.
Nobody thought this workflow through.
Truly grateful I have never had to use linkedin.com in my life. But, a difficult road in another way that most can’t swallow.
am i bias? swallow triggers me for some, late nite here, reason trying not to choke!/ (o_O)
I've never really seen the point and my ex tracked me down over my old account, so I deleted it.
I wish the developed countries could go back to the way things used to be done or are still done in developing countries where there isn't a resume, there's just proof of work done, like work done by an open source nym online. No holds barred and you're hired, just like that.
Credential - less.
Screw the system. We know you're capable and we'll take it; forget the regulatory barriers; they only exist to tax and add middlemen.
It's because it's so hard to fire someone, here.
where is "here"? yes some places are overregulated.
the more overregulation the more mentally slow and inefficient, I've observed. How these people are able to make a living soul sucking the system is just sad af
Germany. Used to work well, here, despite the overregulation, because Germans were so good at following instructions.
Okay, whether that's a feature or a bug, is open to interpretation. 😂
Are you a dev? Looking to hire someone to help me with the back end of my wallet app. I’ve completed a good amount of the heavy lifting, I just don’t want to do the processor piece alone
I am, but not that kind. nostr:npub1qdjn8j4gwgmkj3k5un775nq6q3q7mguv5tvajstmkdsqdja2havq03fqm7 might be more helpful.
Curious what you're building for sure! I am more of a low level/server developer, I don't do mobile stuff but I'd be happy learn more about what you're building!
Working on an app that mimics a chequing/savings account, where the savings sats are accumulated through mandatory weekly DCA, and the spending sats are calculated by the accrued value in fiat terms of each savings transaction. In theory, there would be weeks where the app allows no spending sats (provided that the savings sats to not accumulate in fiat value)
And just like a regular chequing/saving account the app collects a monthly fee
Looking forward to a conversation in the near future, not related to this project nostr:npub1qdjn8j4gwgmkj3k5un775nq6q3q7mguv5tvajstmkdsqdja2havq03fqm7
