My mom homeschooled me until high school when I decided to try out public school (I ended up #1 in my class).

She gave me her time, energy, & attention while also running her own small business.

Homeschooling is an act of love for which I am eternally grateful to my mom 🧡

My son (12) is homeschooled. He is 3 grades ahead in math and 1 grade ahead in every other subject. My daughter (4) has been doing abcmouse for a couple years and is already doing grade 1 level work. Haven’t decided if we will put her in school or not. She is very social.

That’s fantastic. Best advice I can give is let them decide for themselves at a later age and discuss it with them. I think homeschooling in the early years is the really crucial period.

I got the socialization I needed through sports, Boy Scouts, etc. (my mom also helped found a small charter school).

I told my parents I wanted to try out public school when I was a teenager because I wanted to see how I measured up to other kids my age; they talked it through with me but ultimately said it was my decision.

I was worried I was somehow behind other kids, which in retrospect is quite hilarious.

Thanks for sharing. Even though our son has been excelling for years there is also a bit of concern are we doing the right thing so it is nice to hear from someone who went through the experience and benefitted from it.

I too was homeschooled and was near the top of my class when I finally went to high school in-spite of the fact that I never studied. It was a point of pride that I was a straight A student and I didn’t really work at it. My mom is truly one in a million. My mom also had a small side business. I bet our mom’s would get along well.

One of the biggest shocks to me entering public school was that we skipped math problems (and whole chapters!) in public school.

I was used to doing my math textbooks cover to cover 😂

Yeah, I went to a private Christian school, so it wasn’t quite that bad, but it was still bad. We skipped over a lot. Have you read “Dumbing Us Down” by John Taylor Gatto? The Prussian model for education is quite awful.

Love your kids enough to teach them life yourself, not some paid stranger with an ego trip trapped in an institution surrounded by immature idiots who will pressure your children into dumb ideas and terrible worldviews. THIS is the way.

You have a great mom bro💜

We homeschooled our last one. Similar story. Really makes a difference. I’ve noticed he’s more able than most to filter out the noise and just focus.
