I believe the hardest “step” to self custodian zaps is the amount required for locking in a LN channel.

Send on-chain sats, open a channel, start zapping. There's no need to give your sats to someone else. Zaplocker makes it so you don't need an "always on" node.
We are talking about sending money unhindered by regulation, it's supposed to have a couple steps but they are not hard to take.

This can't be avoided though. It's like saying "I want a bank account but I don't want to deposit anything..." Try to open a bank account with no money, doesn't work.
aktchually… you can, some won’t even wait for your first deposit before issuing debit and sometimes credit cards.
You literally cannot. I have discussed this at length with bank personnel. All accounts have a minimum deposit limit. Credit on the other hand is not analogous to this situation.
I suppose things are different in your country then, but in Brazil it’s just as I described. Works the same for both fintech and conventional banks.
Monopoly money aside, even a BTC wallet starts at zero so it’s not unheard of.
Still, even if LN channels were “free” you still need to understand when and why you need to open/close them, the whole thing is not exactly as plug and play as normal transactions from a UX perspective.
Just my two sats.
Of course. Onchain is the simplest. But Zeus make lightning very easy. Open a channel with Zeus (even with balanced liquidity) then start receiving and sending zaps. It's literally that simple. I think opening a bank account is harder. Id, social security numbers, employment verification, and banking app usernames and passwords? Or just create embedded node, fund onchain address, fund channel, boom zapping.
Your analogy is flawed. One can receive money after opening a bank account. But one can’t accept self-custody lightning payment until you have managed the channel for incoming liquidity.
No it isn't, if you have a findable node, people can open a channel to you and send you sats without any input from you... No channel management necessary.
Lol bro, you’re trying to argue for an argument’s sake, so I won’t participate further than my point below.
Who’s going to open a channel to a brand-new node without any other connection? You’d have to pay for that, and that’s the whole point: no non-tech person is going to bother with such cumbersome work.
I believe “cumbersome” is the keyword here, unfortunately.
Yo, you are the one who said "you can't" and you absolutely can. I have opened plenty of channels that I expect to have repeat payments to and paid nodes using lightning (because I don't want to pay fees for weekly payments (for services rendered).
I literally help people set these things up for a living. Each time they go "it's that easy?" And I say "Yep."
It's not installing an OS from commandline like Gentoo linux. It's literally installing an app on your phone and using it. This "it's too hard" crap is garbage.
