It's crazy but, I no longer know which lightning wallet to recommend to my friends who want to receive and send zaps.

-Primal wallet? KYC, no thanks

-Coinos? Too many exploits, no thanks

-Walletofsatoshi or Blink? No NWC, no thanks

-Minibits or cashu.me ? NWC only with background app, no thanks

And they are all custodial wallets anyway, so thanks, but no thanks.

-Misty Breez would be nice should get under 100 sats and there is no tradeoff of using liquid for self custodial.

It seems that "Walletofsatoshi" is preparing a self custodial wallet that receives even a single sats... I look forward to it impatiently.

Same, coinos was was a great option for this

For lightning payments I only use Getalby, but I am forced to keep my Mac at home on 24/7

On Plebeian market I also put the lightning payment option on my Misty Breez address because it seems like an acceptable tradeoff.

Heard some good things haven't looked into it yet

Too complicated for a newbie.

Thanks, but no thanks.

Phoenix is good but it's costly which is a shame but no such thing as a free lunch

Too complicated for a newbie.

Thanks, but no thanks.

True, wos it is then

When it's self custodial, maybe

i find minibits and breeze a could combination. Misty breez is integrated with gplay, so no thanks. This looks interesting https://numeraire.tech/ but have not tried it out yet.

Very interesting, thank you very much

What do you mean Misty Breez is integrated with google play?

+1 for minibits, you can send zaps no problem in the background

Tell them they're too dumb or unwilling to learn for self custodial lightning if Phoenix and Zeus are too complicated.

πŸŽ―πŸ’―

I dont think its a good idea to tell them that if someone shows interest in bitcoin or nostr, to onboard them.... But explain the tradeoffs with patients is

It's good to be honest.

Understanding Phoenix or Zeus requires only a little curiosity and time. It is not a matter of intelligence, but of different wills and priorities-and that is perfectly fine.

How is Primal KYC?

When you opened the wallet on Primal, didn't it ask you for your name, surname and nationality?

i dont recall they asked, but sure i didn't tell any of that

You probably logged in to the wallet right in the first period when only an email was required. I also didn't do KYC, now it's mandatory.

I believe Strike handles their KYC

Become a node runner and use AlbyHub. Or let them use your Hub with a seperate account.

Yes AlbyHub is a good solution, but I prefer to use it only for me and my wife.

Zeus or phoenix

Too complicated for a newbie.

Thanks, but no thanks.

What do you mean? It’s three steps set up!

Phoenix or Zeus depending on the user.

You've right, but too complicated for a newbie and nocoiner.

Then Muun with fake lightning, works for now. Super clean UI/UX and the "safest" option because in reality everything is on the main chain. So can also be used as stacking wallet until certain levels are hit.

Muun for Nostr? πŸ‘€

Thanks, but no thanks.

There was a time when there weren't a lot of options. Now there are so many, it is hard to choose. But I say do what's best and comfortable for you and your situation.

Just a little FYI, nostr:nprofile1qqst4qyeqenw7zm0fwjsty68h6cnys5jre2xd8ngqpjv5a2j26s78fspp4mhxue69uhkummn9ekx7mqpzpmhxue69uhkummnw3ezumrpdejqqxdctk may be having some prblems with attacks, that does come with the territory unfortunatey. But there is an option to create a noncustodial account now.

Personally, when I created my coinos account, I did not use nostr. So, I did not attach my Nsec to the account. I chose to go the old school way and use a username and password. In turn, coinos generated a new npub and nsec. Which I do not use. Yes, anything unexpected can still happen with the funds but remember we are still very early.

nostr:nevent1qqsrlmvzen3zvy8kpnz8987j2dnzmj6l6hd25528h5wp55ykz6tx2wgprfmhxue69uhhg6r9vehhyetnwshxummnw3erztnrdaksyg85mdf8p0vervtmag0x6q6lgh0w8y53ns55wja6cyp5953rca8q6qpsgqqqqqqspclpfx

Well, you have a choice. Take responsibility for holding your own keys or continue to get rugged. It's really not complicated but I guess it can be scary.

nostr:nprofile1qqsrf5h4ya83jk8u6t9jgc76h6kalz3plp9vusjpm2ygqgalqhxgp9gpzfmhxue69uhk7enxvd5xz6tw9ec82cspp4mhxue69uhkummn9ekx7mqpzpmhxue69uhkummnw3ezumrpdejqd2970s isn't "complicated" it literally has embedded node tech. If you want to be able to receive zaps while (your phone is) offline, you need to setup your own node.

What you are posting is the equivalent of all of my food options are making me fat but making my own food is too hard! Well, be fat I guess.

I don't get rugged because I run my own shit.

i usually recommend beginners muun+aqua (in that case when muun want to send with onchain transaction)

Muun+Aqua to zap on Nostr? I think you didn't read my post well.

oh, sorry, i read it, but forgot the original question til i get through the answers :S

but my answer has a little accidently truth: you can zap with muun, just not receive ;)

If you use a burner email with primal wallet, it's a decent tradeoff imo

Just make sure not to purchase sats from the app store

Everyone who suggested Zeus or Phoenix to me probably did not understand the problem of having a novice use zaps on Nostr.

The vast majority of nocoiners don't even know what sats are, let alone understand apps like those mentioned above.

Obviously to stay on Nostr it is not necessary to use zaps, but zaps are still the killer feature that holds back the majority of those who come here.

However, if the only viable alternative to not losing your sats is having to learn how to use Zeus or Phoenix, then we can kiss "normal" users goodbye.

nostr:nevent1qqsrlmvzen3zvy8kpnz8987j2dnzmj6l6hd25528h5wp55ykz6tx2wgppemhxue69uhkummn9ekx7mp0qgs0fk6jwz7ejxchh6s7d5p473w7uwffr8pfga9m4sgrgtfz836wp5qrqsqqqqqpgmwjy3

Still a few months out, but I hope that #nostr #safebox will be in running.

How about a Start9 server and running Alby Hub?

It is not necessary if you only want to use lightning.

https://albyhub.com/

True.

But lightning is complicated by design. Relai cancelled it's lightning wallet - it never worked.

But Albyhub is working ok for me.

It works for me too, but we can't expect new people to use Start9 or spend twelve bucks a month for a cloud subscription to earn 42 sats per month.

I like Minibits for new coiners because it doesn't require infrastructure or software as a service subscriptions. It is also private.

The trade off is some cashu mints may rug-pull you. This is a risk, but imagine if you are someone with less than 500 sats. You don't have enough sats for a UTXO. We can't get on our soapbox and say "Not your keys, not your bitcoin!" for 500 sats. Yeah, technically, it's not your bitcoin, but there's nothing we can do about that.

To mitigate risk, however, we can split that 500 sats on various mints. Perhaps we keep 100 sats on minibits, 100 sats on coinios, etc. We now have our sats spread accross 5 mints. If one mint rug-pulls us, we still have 400 sats spread accross other mints.

Fedi is also interesting, but I'm waiting for some new features to roll out before I explore ir more. I suspect lightning addresses on Fedi will be a game changer, but these things take time.

Well I have used Minibits with great success for the last 6 months now

Minibits is fun

Muun?

Running your own lighting wallet is the best way. I run mine and have been using both Seuz Wallet and Alby Go. With Alby Hub installed in your server and an alby account you are covered and fully conected.

I know that nostr:nprofile1qyt8wumn8ghj7ct5d3shxtnwdaehgu3wd3skueqpzemhxue69uhky6t5vdhkjmn9wgh8xmmrd9skcqpqxnf02f60r9v0e5kty33a404dm79zr7z2eepyrk5gsq3m7pwvsz2s7szjpe is a good recommendation by most.

Though... there's FUD about Lightning, as the guys behind it apparently have WEF ties.

I've been writing about this all day. There is no silver bullet. Each wallet has trade offs. Here is 100 sats from Coinos.

https://coinos.io/fund/dc854439-16ef-4f56-9984-aeb076432ba9

Could it get hacked? I guess, but I'm giving it away to the first person who takes it. How would I know if it was hacked or someone from this thread took those sats off the table.

I don't know, but I'm not worried about it. I would never put more than 10,000 sats on my Coinos wallet.

I run Albyhub on my own node and bought stuff in Vegas with it last week, but I've been using the lightning network for 7 years.

I like Zeus because you can start with non-custodial Cashu and gradually move to self-sovereignity as you learn more. It takes time. Nobody can be an expert lightning node nerd over night.

There are trade offs to every wallet. Some charge more fees, some require at least 100 sats, some swap between liquid while others use Liquid. Some wallets are more secure for larger amounts of sats. Custodial wallets might be better from a risk point of view for transactions less than the dust limit.

There are too many variables to recomend 1 wallet for every situation. That wallet does not exist. That is why we use multisig for serious amounts.

I usually show people Aqua wallet. Love the design and interface

Aqua for send and receive zaps on Nostr?

Oh oops. Thought you meant just showing pre-coiners Bitcoin. Aqua is my favorite for that.

I’ve had the same problem.

At the moment one of the best options for just starting up is nostr:npub1yzvxlwp7wawed5vgefwfmugvumtp8c8t0etk3g8sky4n0ndvyxesnxrf8q because they will give you a free sub-account on their Alby Hub, and it’s NWC compatible of course, and works instantly on every client without needing to open a channel. Once they’ve gotten comfortable with it and have enough sats, you can encourage them to start up their own Alby Hub.

Yes it is true, the wallet provided by Yakihonne is even simpler than the one provided by Primal, but strangely enough you were the only one to suggest it.

Unfortunately this is also custodial, I'm eagerly awaiting Walletofsatoshi's self-custody solution.

Agreed, that’s a trade-off but I feel better about it because the people who run Yakihonne and Alby are solid plebs who have earned their reputations. I always encourage self custody but you have to start somewhere, and this just works from the moment you set it up.

I’m in the YakiHonne team, too!

For zapping I think Is ok to have something custodial, in the end is a trade-off.

Phoenix has monstrous fees even for the smallest transaction, so it’s not a viable solution.

The point is educating people to move their sats once they reach a certain amount.

Misty breez is my fav atm, it also has a developer mode so you can create your own automations with it, pretty dope.

I find minibits fun to use!
