Today's Thinkings: I've been used to deleting all my posts on other platforms after some time, so it's pretty weird to me that I can't do that here (I can request it but can't do it myself). I like being able to remove posts that no longer resonate with me. Does that bug anybody else?

Not me....I like to be "All In". Actually is a good tool to check on self to see how we change and not resonate with a version of us that is gone. Self awareness is beautiful. š«
Itās more a slow deathā¦ posts donāt delete but they do rely on someone actually hosting them somewhere, so if that doesnāt happen, the post disappears, at least this is my understanding. Happy to be corrected if I misunderstood.
That's my understanding too. They'll eventually disappear.

It happens that way, yes! They dissappear in the void. But you have the gallery where you can save and you can you personalized hastags.... I manage to get some old notes this way.
I think there is a relay out there that only archives and keeps posts that people ask to be deleted. Can't remember where I heard this, but it makes sense.
I did see a bot like that once, posting deleted comments. However, ultimately someone needs to maintain that, probably quite easy right now but if we get a lot of users at some point that will become increasingly expensive.
True, but my point is that it can be done. And sending a delete may actually increase chances that your note gets kept long term š¤£

I delete or edit just when it makes sense for human readers. No point in trying to appease our government or ai overlords. They will greedily see deletes as additional signal.

In case you are not just pulling my leg, Amethyst has an edit option. Which I guess is just a "request to replace" a note. Which is really the same as a delete.
No was serious, Iāve never used Amethyst as g09gle canāt built a phone robust enough not to break (had two Graphene enabled pixels break on me).
Technically on traditional social media youāre still requesting it to be deleted, youāre trusting them to actually delete it and not just hide it from view.
If youāre worried about it too much then you could always post to your own relay and that relay alone, then you would have full control over the content on thatās posted.
But that doesnāt mean someone canāt import it from your relay. Similar to how people can screenshot on Facebook and save it forever. There really is no escape to the foreverness of something posted online that needs redacted later.

YES agreed! Sometime you just make a horrible post as well. You should be able to delete your post more efficiently/ effectively.

The same way an npub is allowed to post notes by signing them, same way it should work for them to sign a request to delete them instantly.
