My car has a spare tire, but I’m buying a new tire if I get a flat

My diesel engine can run on used cooking oil, but it'll definitely last longer if I only feed it diesel. A better car analog.

It’s actually a worse analogy if you understand the point be was trying to make.

In this scenario your engine turns diesel into used cooking oil at times.

The fact that the liver turns protein into carbohydrates (through a process that signals scarcity and arguably increases cortisol if relied on over time) completely dismantles his other overly simplistic argument that carbohydrates are poison. Our bodies make poison apparently. The logic is faulty UNLESS one has an autoimmune condition whose effects are worse than high cortisol, hair loss, suboptimal low testosterone, poor electrolytes absorption in some, etc. Otherwise, it’s kind of a larp and/or a strange lifestyle choice.

What keto folks won't tell you:

1. Diabetes results when the body is driven on stress hormones and gluconeogenesis, the process Ken is promoting here, for too long.

2. The keto diet keeps users in lipolysis, resulting in their own body gradually losing the ability to leverage the sugars their liver is producing (the Randle cycle).

Long term keto exposes you to diabetes.

"Production of glucose in the liver is always seen in diabetics. Why would their livers be producing glucose if dietary intake is to blame?

It’s a failure to use glucose.

Insulin secretion from carbohydrate intake fixes this. Shifting away from fat oxidation fixes this."

Will the liver still make glucose even if we consume it?

And if we never consume it, will the liver at some point "wear out" and lose its ability to make glucose?

I have been on carnivore since 2019, I felt really lousy for a couple years until I started consuming some carbs. Now I feel okay (not great, but tolerable). I had no energy, depressed, low T (mid 200s) and was having a hard time converting T4 to T3. Any advice for others with no thyroid?

Thyroidectomy via radioactive iodine 20+ years ago to deal with Graves.

The brain runs on glucose. Do you think it’s efficient to convert protein to glucose instead of just providing your body with the correct amount of nutrients? I promise you, carnivore negatively impacts performance. It will make you feel sharper due to detoxing, but you will experience ADHD like symptoms that completely nullify any subjective benefit you feel — because you are objectively malnourished on a true carnivore diet.

Test it.

If you have to supplement with pills, what the fuck are you doing? Eat broccoli for God’s sake!

Carnivore is an elimination diet and NOTHING LESS. To promote its long term application, you are causing great harm. When you go on carnivore, you have to reintroduce foods to find what you are allergic to. That’s the whole point.
