No reason to be derisive, imo. Emergent systems are genuinely hard to wrap your head around if you haven’t explored them in depth. I mean how do we “value” what a chair is worth? The idea that there’s literally no such thing as a nominal measure of value is difficult to grasp when you think of everything in “prices.” It isn’t immediately obvious that this is a perfectly circular/relative logic, it has the *appearance* of being a simple nominal unit.

yeah, even nominal units are defined by some standard, that's part of the issue, differential definitions are inherently confusing and modern education systems don't teach hardly anyone how to reason about them, i see this kind of mistake in code on a pretty regular basis too - and make my own mistakes... i expect to be ridiculed when i make mistakes though, and anyone who doesn't expect that is being extremely naive, and that deserves it also

I think this is exactly my issue. I'm in the process of trying to mold my mental framework into something new that is ready to adapt to what is coming in the future. And it's not as easy as I would have liked.

Yeah, I'm not afraid to ask stupid questions, and I'm not afraid to admit that I have gaps in my knowledge and ignorance. Despite your comment here which isn't cool at all, I benefitted from all the replies on this post, even yours.

that's why it's stupid to say that it's stupid to say that someone is being stupid

because you were stupid in what you said

humility doesn't get acquired without ridicule

I disagree with you, because I have learned the value of humility plenty well in my life without needing to be ridiculed every time.

If I see someone else asking questions like what I did in the future, I can now pay it forward, but I'm happy to know I can do so without your type of attitude.

boasting about humility is quite funny

i appreciate you not holding back tho, but for many of us this is stuff we already knew 15 years ago
