Have any of you deleted your social media accounts? How does that feel? Do you feel like you’re an outsider? Do you miss important information?

I’ve been considering for a while to simply disappear of everything I have outside Nostr (except LinkedIn that is something I need for now).

The only thing that keeps me there is the contact I have with some people and information I get from some institutions that are essential to me.

Please share your experience with me.

I have deleted all of my social media accounts besides #Nostr.

It feels good that I'm not being sold anymore lol 🤣 !! Big Tech Companies did a number on us all.

nostr:nevent1qqsyvlfw3k9qq4carkaudasaqvnujzc2fax45wnld2r2ln9wkxths0gpz4mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuerpd46hxtnfduhsygxga6p73hutlndws0lwkhfxq75ysfpwvyc62fyqeflaqvnz6jt2xgpsgqqqqqqsne0rur

Felt like an outsider before deleting, still feel the same, so no change there. There are informative accounts I miss a little, but there are other ways to connect and stay informed such as through Discord.

I did it earlier this year, I also don’t have any news app on my phone, sometimes I feel disconnected from the world and not in a good way 😂 so I do miss important information from time to time.

It’s all about trade-offs, if you have important connections and friends on legacy social media, I suggest you keep them and try minimizing the time you spend there. I don’t think this is the popular advise you will get from Nostr but this is what I think.

I deleted everything and am #nostronly. Never had an IG account, deleted Facebook in 2019, deleted twitter last year, deleted LinkedIn a few months ago.

There is definitely a feeling I’m missing something. A lot of my IRL friends are on IG and Facebook is where most of my family is. But I’ve found in talking to people that I’m probably not missing that much. I try to text friends to stay in touch instead of sharing posts/photos and keep in touch with family over phone calls.

Overall, I think it’s best for my mental health and will never go back to the legacy social medias even if it makes me feel a little bit of an outsider.

I feel you. I’ve been thinking of doing the same.

Deleted all social media many years ago. I feel fantastic without being censored by anyone. I dont feel like an outsider. I do not miss any important information, but rather I often discover it her first and unfiltered.

Overall when you make the switch and take true control over your online presence. Is the first step towards achieving freedom.

I've never even had a social media account and I've never felt like an outsider for not having one. 😉ya see where I'm goin with this?

As for linkedin, you're better off just contacting the employers directly.

I didn't delete anything, I got banned on X.

Wow 😮 My father was banned on FB

Even ditched LinkedIn.

You need it less than you think. The hook is deep but it’s largely mental.

Deleted FaceBook, Snapchat, Twitter years ago. Have never regretted it.

social media sucks, i deleted most of it but i miss it. which is why i keep coming back to nostr, even though i kinda feel like it's not much better. it's like the least bad option

I still have a twitter account for some people and brands I enjoy following. I still have fomo about some things and have not found replacements on nostr, yet. I’ve only updated LinkedIn in the last year when I got a new job 😆

When I ghosted my other social networks, the people I thought were my friends I knew in person never attempted to contact me other ways. It hurt to go through that but I realized they weren’t the type of friends I wanted.

I’ve enjoyed nostr. People respond more often to posts and generally want to have a conversation and have fun.

When you don’t have a lot of time in the real world to make and have friends, it’s nice to come to a place like nostr.

I think many of the accounts I’ve followed a year ago aren’t using nostr or I’m not using the correct relays.

Sure nostr has it growing pains but someone who believes in #bitcoin, it’s nice to be welcomed in this community.

I binned most of my social accounts, I still have Linkedin for work but other than that I'm nostr only

The same here 👍

For starters, you can take a break from other social media or limit its use. You don't have to delete your accounts right away. Some users here are clearly part of some cult centered around bitcoin and nostr, so don't be surprised if they call for cutting ties with the outside world (in this case, with other platforms) - that's how any cult works.
