Respect the work, but I don’t get this. If everyone on nostr was verified with nostrplebs, wouldn’t that defeat the point? Isn’t the point of nostr verification to prove a tie to a domain you own?
had a discussion about this with #[4] yesterday. Basically some people only need verification to prove they arent a bot, which is what this service is for. Public figures who need identity verification can use their own domain
okay I can see this. layer 1 verification is prove you have 10k sats (?), layer 2 is notable person proving connection to known domain

this is a general pattern I’m seeing within Nostr. Its becoming like a “build-your-own” social media platform. I want twitter’s feed, instagrams verification, snapchats dms, etc. And anyone can contribute their own feature.

Just wanted to add that nostr network doesn't necessarily have to do it all. Keet.io already has fully peer to peer video and text chat worked out and eventually they claim it will be a fully open source protocol. For video chat might be less ideal to stream thru nostr relays.

Damus might have stiff competition in 12 months because an opportunist with a billion dollars wants to compete, but such an investment would come with building a client with totally different incentives (get ROI)

Don't think of it as verified. Think of it as an easy way to tie a public key to an easy, human readable format. Only one stephen@nostrplebs.com can ever exist. But we may see 1000's of other stephen's out there with NIP-05 IDs and some without.
