I’m saying that misinformation is actually a real and a big problem. It is difficult to fight with though. And the ways govts fight with it are often times inadequate (as very many things govts do very inefficiently i.e. money management)

But the fact govts handle this problem bad doesn’t mean the problem doesn’t exist. And highly unlikely that if instead not handle the problem at all things to become net positive.

I’m developing for nostr. And I know on my own unfortunately, how bad misinformation in social media is in real life. And claims like “let your enemies speak” only make me less want to help nostr live. Because I know on my own awful example what happens “when your enemy speaks” saying 1000% lies

Nostr needs to provide censorship resistance to real people with good intentions. But at the same tome nostr needs to find the ways to address problems of people with bad intentions playing their own game. And not handling it at all - is not a viable solution.

we don’t have a misinformation problem, we have a government manipulation problem

terrorists and freedom fighters will both use nostr, domestic and foreign governments will use nostr, real people with good and bad intentions will use nostr

it’s a protocol

Its a protocol, yes, and it needs tools. Nobody uses http, pop and imap, everybody use gmail and facebook

And those tools must have options to fight with misinformation. Want tools for terrorist? Ok, go build it and have plans to fight with govts

My question is whether nostr community has any tools for good ppl in mind or it blindly believes that no tools will work better than govt regulations?

Worst take of the day and filled with misinformation...

Gmail and Facebook are not tools, they are private companies. Companies always push their agenda, taking control of the information away from the user. In nostr we want to prevent this - the control must remain in user's hands. The key difference between email and nostr is that in nostr the user is the one having the keys. So I hope that nostr's destiny is different from email's destiny.

correct, nostr is a protocol. correct, no one walks around saying that they're using http or pop3 or imap, they say they're using clients like you mentioned, gmail and facebook.

in that regard, nostr clients, such as amethyst, damus, primal, etc. could build these additional tools that you're inquiring about. it's an open protocol, just like httpd, where anyone can build tools to work with anyone or anything. if someone wants to build a nostr client that can "fight misinformation" then someone just needs to build it and then users need to use that client.

who knows? maybe that client will become the most popular and defacto client for all to use. though, im guessing the opposite would happen.

Its gonna become as popular as Threads 🥤

What's Threads? JK I don't need Threads 🤣

Exactly, no one does

Tell 'em lol 😆

Is this a FED trying to project regulations on nothing?

Go fuck yourself or make a nostr client no one is going to use

How many times in your life terrorists and terrorist states used misinformation against your country and your family?

Is this about WMDs?

me after watching that:

0% relevance.

Read "The Dictators Handbook"

Read "1984"

You can run a moderated relay if you want (which you are). You can create a client that does client side content filtering.

You go too far when you try to get people who are not voluntarily using them to use them.

Nostr users interact with clients (equivalent to fb and gmail). The difference is that if a client censors or deplatforms the user, their content is still preserved and accessible via other clients.

The problem with exercising the power to moderate misinformation is that there’s no way to preserve truth if the moderator decides it wants to conceal it.

it blindly believes that herds of cats won't respond to shepherds.

make your own tools or gtfo.

And who will judge who is good people?

It’s judgement that defeats us.

governments haven't cornered the market on spreading misinformation and propaganda. people spread lies and misinformation too.

let me know when the WH emails client developers and relay operators, like they did with social media platforms during COVID

the government can’t protect people from being dumb and believing lies on social media, the government isn’t the sole arbitrator of truth

I know its hard to believe, especially been in software development, know it by myself — but govts everyday protects millions of ppl from being dumb

They do it extremely inefficiently on internet and its annoying and needs to be changed. But it doesn’t mean this should not be done at all

ok, i’ll bite, what are your recommendations?
