I have a plan to set my stereo homepods on a wifi network that doesn't have internet access just to keep the stereo over wifi. I'm going to stream to them via airplay from the iPod, but Siri won't be able to transfer data over the internet.
Why not just get some Bluetooth speakers? Can prob find better/louder for the same price or cheaperβ¦
Of course bluetooth would work too, I agree. I bought homepods because I'm an apple collector and I like using their products. I would also like to buy an iPod HiFi. The second argument is that the homepods are just big for my small desk. The third argument is that via wifi you can stream music from NAS storage with better quality than via bluetooth. I use homepods on wifi with internet now and I use Siri only for βHey Siri, play radioβ. I don't like Siri to much, but I like Apple ecosystem across the product.
Yeah just curious but I agree about the eco system and their products
Read the article! Never actually been thinking about it like that, but it makes a lot of sense. Seems like weβre heading deeper and deeper into the Matrix.
I have always been interested in a dumb speaker. An air gapped device with a good speaker that is voice controlled and can control the lights and things. I wonder whether GPT4All plus voice to text library could be used to create one...
Bonus points for the Aqua reference!
But... But... Tim Apple put Satoshi's Whitepaper on all the macs, it cannot be !!!
Haha true
I use an old and trusted amplifier, a good pair of speakers and a @jack input π on my iPhone 6s.
Stupid story π
Just a few moths back π released a security update. It included a hot fix that limits the use of airdrop. Interestingly, this release coincided with demonstrations in CHN. Since demonstrations were ongoing, the authorities crippled reception and the use of messenger. So protesters used airdrop, as a means of communication, during their protest until π limited its use.
thanks for sharing this Jack

Saw what you did there-with the email for a read exchange-π . Some good points and with the upsurge of smart meters tracking all energy usage, I have no doubt you are right.
I will NEVER have one of those things in my home. Itβs bad enough Iβm already paranoid about my phone as it is.
I created this account to inform people about privacy and safety.
Meanwhile governments mandating remote control abilities on air conditioner.
A cute story of a simple man π
βFreedom is not static, but dynamic. Not a vested interest, but a prize continually to be won. The moment man stops and resigns himself, he becomes subject to determinism. He is most enslaved when he thinks he is comfortably settled in freedom.β βJacques Ellul, The Technological Society, 1954
I found this perspective to be aligned with my own.

Meh. A bit fear-mongering and a very vague. But always fun to think adversely like this. I think microphones everywhere are a much clearer and nearer danger.
pretty sure second hand smoke is bad lmao but otherwise yeah Iβve been ringing the alarm on alexa for ages and none of my friends listen. I think itβs absolutely insane to own one (imagine PAYING for it!) and rude to have that thing on and not tell your house guests itβs there. sneaky ass snoopware.
Related: when people visit you, normalize asking people to turn off their phones and put them in a metal lockbox
Tidal still good though?
Thanks for sharing, a very good and important read!
This is really a stretch of causality, just because you can imagine it does not make it true.
Maybe people would just like a temperature sensor in their HomePod?
Fantastic article. It's spot on!
The only shocking thing are the many replies to #[1] s post saying meh or no big deal.
I'd take a bet that most of these ppl have never read Orwell, Mises or Rothbard.
I donβt even know where the light switches are in my house anymore since I always ask Alexa to turn them off and on. Now that I think of it, maybe Alexa had them removed from the walls? π€·ββοΈ
