The Montana state legislature voted to ban TikTok in the state. The bill would prevent a company from allowing people in Montana to download the app.

The bill states that the reasoning is because 1) China is an adversary to the U.S. and 2) TikTok promotes harmful behavior and collects data on users.

It was sponsored by a Republican and mostly passed by Republicans. Most Democrats opposed it but were outvoted. It still needs to be signed by the governor, and it would be open to court challenges.

I don't like TikTok, but that's not a promising snapshot for where lawmakers are in terms of software control.

I thought long about this over the weekend, as I visited some WWI internment camp memorials in the Canadian mountains. Immigrants from Eastern Europe were placed in work camps, not for being found guilty of a crime, but because they were "more likely" to be sympathetic to our adversary.

What happens if btc is framed as the currency of an adversarial state? Then those who hold it could be deemed as an enemy of the state. This is a narrative that I believe is possible, and one that a majority of people could believe.

If this happens, the state that pushes bitcoin out will eventually cease to exist due to capital flight.

In my scenario, the majority of people still believe in the state and are convinced that bitcoiners are enemies of the state.

We will see. Hopefully, not.

They will inevitably bow the to taxability of it in a sea of diminishing tax revenue.

I seem to remember hearing about another group of people who didn't fear their government and got branded as 'enemies of he state'. I think they were called the "Founding Fathers". You've probably heard of 'em...

I’m not sure if that’s an apples to apples comparison. The founding fathers were attempting to create a new state. Unless, you believe the future of bitcoin lays in the ability of us to create a new country and state completely separate from our current institutions?
