I'm still seeing lots of Chinese in the global feed. Hopefully that means our Chinese brothers and sisters have found other clients to use or Damus hasn't been removed yet.

Can anyone in Mainland China confirm that it's been removed? What about if the app was already installed on a device. Will the app be removed from devices it's already been installed on too?

Curious about this too. In the west if you already have it on your phone it stays in my experience.

Good to know. I have zero experience with Apple.

There’s also a lot of Chinese speakers who reside outside of China. I wonder how many are in that category.

That's a good point too.

No. If the device has it, the device would have to delete it. And China is a running a back already and opened a second group in wechat a couple of hours ago.

Chinese πŸ‡¨πŸ‡³ have learned that the CCP may stop the client from being downloaded, but users can still sideload the app and the CCP cannot stop the protocol.

I've heard of people using AltStore in modern times to sideload apps, but I don't know anything about it. I used to talk to my man Jay Freeman back in the day about Cydia and jailbreaking though.

China is using the andriod apk's, working on an apple sideload, and sharing the app they already downloaded 😜.

Yes,damus was been removed

Afaik they haven't banned public relays yet and web clients + android clients are all easily accessible.

Cat's already out of the bag. The beauty of open protocols πŸ€™

Cool they should learn about the Tianamen Square Massacre

The only issue would probably software updates. They'd have to manually push those changes and I'm not sure how technical one needs to be for that.

removed from App store now. I installed yesterday, and can use it normally for now.

Great!

Removed from apple store.

We the already installed not affected.

This is great news πŸ«‚

Its removed from the App Store today. But I can use this client since I downloaded the damus yesterday.

Great! πŸ§‘πŸ’œ

What options do others have? Is it easy to load banned websites? I use iris.to - if that were banned is it easy to get access to it?

If the CCP decide to ban all the relay dns / ip. What can the chinese do?

the best part of china is that taiwan, an independent nation with its own sovereign territory, is not apart of it.

fuck off xinnie the pooh πŸ–•

Neither China (PRC) nor "Taiwan" (ROC) claims independence, they both share the one China policy. They just disagree on who should rule all of China
