Everyone cares about purchasing power of their Bitcoin, and that’s what the price tells you. The people who pretend not to care are disingenuous.

Not everyone. I just started to buy a few months ago, for me it's almost sad because I can buy fewer and fewer sats. 🤷
Whether current or future purchasing power, that’s what you and everyone else is wanting from bitcoin, along with censorship resistance and its other good qualities. If you didn’t expect it to be worth at least what you paid for it by the time you need to use it, you probably wouldn’t be saving it.
I think it goes beyond purchasing power. The price also reflects liquidity to some extent. The higher the price the bigger the transactions that can take place without massive slippage.

PPgU technology!
Of course. Imo the criticism is more towards the tunnel vision and obsession with price at the expense of all else, like the only thing that makes Bitcoin special to begin with (removing trusted third parties), by a growing community within Bitcoin.
