Have just finished 30 days on carnivore diet, some of my observations:

1) Wasn’t hungry. Certainly ate less in all but found myself full sooner too

2) Eggs are the best! I went through about 100 in 1 month, hard boiled as snacks of cooked alongside steak/sausages/bacon. Throw on some grated cheese when you’re next frying eggs!

3) Eating outside the home is the biggest challenge. Difficult to find dishes at restaurants/cafes that are meat only

4) Minced meat is your friend. I cooked “meat cakes” with eggs and cheese in muffin trays for snacks, and mixed with taco seasoning and bacon is a great easy meal

5) Didn’t experience much benefit in energy levels but I certainly slept better

6) Once you break your sugar addiction it becomes very easy

7) Your gut readjusting after a few days isn’t much fun 😂

8) Sous vide made the cooking part way easier.

9) Its not expensive. I was getting through on $15-$25 per day and having basically whatever meat I felt like

10) 4 other people started carnivore after talking to me, all men. Sharing with them at different points made it easier too

Can’t see myself doing it full time but I reckon I’ll do it annually with dry July. Improved my cooking abilities and dropped weight with minimal effort, realised seed oils are in everything, and noticed just how pervasive shit food is too so it was a very worthwhile experiment for me.

Interesting. When I've done it for short periods of time, I had similar experience. There is an initial craving for bread only if you were eating a lot of bread and suddenly stopped doing so. I think perhaps carb-loving gut bacteria have evolved the ability to control human hunger sensations. So if you starve them off, that hunger for bread goes away. If I taper off bread I have no problems. I've never gone all carnivore, I've only done meat+veg (low starch veg only).

Meat & veg I had done before and I’ve done very controlled macros, the difference I found here was more the explicit elimination of everything that isn’t protein. Kind of like being told to paint a picture but being given a limited palette and tools - it forces you to rethink your approach when there are new constraints.

Not sure if the craving thing is bacteria or blood-sugar levels, definitely most notable at night (when you’re eating meat you don’t tend to want a snack at 10pm) for me and bad for maybe 1.5 weeks before it eased off.

I haven’t tried full carnivore but have moved to a heavily animal based diet. I mostly now meat, eggs, dairy, plus mushrooms, some fruit/veg and sourdough bread. I definitely feel better, have lost weight and sleep better. Breaking the sugar addiction was the hardest part for me but I think cutting the sugar and processed foods has made the biggest difference.

Mushrooms would have been a good addition/variation, as would have been more dairy. Smashed through a bunch of cheese and a bit of milk with scrambled eggs but some yoghurt prob would have been good.

Did you get your hands on some tallow? I’ve found that cooking in lard and tallow has lessened inflammation and during those 30 days was by far the least joint inflammation I’ve had in years.

That sugar addiction is wild though eh? Wonder how many ppl out there have it and have no clue they’re addicted

I never used to like mushrooms but some of the more exotic varieties that I can get at the farmer’s market here taste better and from what I’ve read seen to have some good nutritional properties so I now have them usually with steak 2-3 times a week. I’m not a fan of yoghurt but I also started drinking kombucha for the probiotics which seems to help a lot with some gut issues I had in the past.

I haven’t tried tallow yet but I found out that a local butcher has just started selling it so I am planning to get some.

I actually felt terrible for a couple of days when I first cut back on sugar which kind of showed me how bad the addiction was! I haven’t cut it out completely and still eat sweets occasionally but I definitely try to minimise it now.

Interesting, I was thinking you replaced meat with mushrooms but you meant in addition. Unfortunately my mushroom options are very limited here.
