I really dislike #AI ...

But as a (#math) #teacher and #IT guy I need to keep up to date and to remain constructive. Also, my students need to learn to use it cleverly, so I'd better do it with them.

Which AI engine/service is considered as the most reliable nowadays? Using them through a "#privacy fence" like #duckduckgo gives me only access to "mini" engines, which seem very poor...

I'm willing to pay a fee if the service is sustainable and of quality.

Thanks for any pieces of advice!

Some people run their own models which would be the most private option.

I’ve heard good things about

https://venice.ai/

nostr:nprofile1qqstpl9vdc85trf5n57tl8ml22yh8c9nj0pa0dep6dq5pcupf7t4jqq22tpef I use ppq.ai , but I'm not sure if it actually has access to a search engine.

You can use [perplexica](https://github.com/ItzCrazyKns/Perplexica) for search. It is the open source version of perplexity, which is a language model on top of a search engine aggregator:

[SearXNG](https://github.com/searxng/searxng), The search engine aggregator that perplexica uses is easy to run on your local machine. It's my new favorite search tool:

We have perplexity!

Awesome, now I can use it for search too 😀

I was a bit disappointed when I found out that most language models (like gpt40) only have search when they are used in the original UI. I frequently write prompts mentioning "use the internet to find out", so the models must have been hallucinating in those scenarios...

We have 4o and Sonnet already. The versions you are using on ChatGPT are "multimodal", meaning that they can "call" the internet when you ask for it. We added that a while back but then regressed due to bugs. But we could probably try again soon as the tech has advanced a bit in this area.

Additionally, we have o1-preview but are still waiting for o1 and o1 pro to be made available to use via the openAI API. They have been promising that since before christmas but still nothing.

Is o1 multi modal on ppq?

Not currently, but soon.

Actually, if you notice, o1 is not multimodal on ChatGPT even:

Not yet, we've been waiting for openAI to release it to us. Although not even openAI has multimodal o1 as far as I can tell.

o1 now available.

Multi modal o1?

It doesn't say `online version` on the side yet..

You keep mentioning multi modal online for o1, but I don't even believe ChatGPT has that, does it?

Aah now I understand, this announcement was about the upgrade from `preview` to the full blown `o1` language model.

Ya multi modal is an important feature to me, because I have limited connectivity. I can work on a VPS, but I can't browse the internet on a VPS that easily. Perplexica/perplexity helps with that...
