That's not fair. With any good application of science you also understand and question your foundations. You see this happening in physics now: there are a lot of competing ideas for emergence of gravity, dark matter and dark energy, because the prevailing ideas don't fully satisfy.

I'm talking about the statement not being a fair representation.

I believe it absolutely is by my experience in academia. The culture is generally very authoritative, insecure, and closed minded. There are of course exceptions, but they are *exceptions,* not the rule.

My mother is in academia, and I know tons of people who work in and with academia who all feel largely the same way. So I don’t say this arbitrarily or with some vague social media image as to what the environment is.
