I'm not convinced that Elon Musk has a firm grasp on what the word "moral" means at this point. https://www.mediaite.com/tv/elon-musk-calls-remote-work-bullsht-and-morally-wrong/
Discussion
Man yells at efficiency unlocked by technology.
Let's say he's right, and remote work is much less productive than in-person office work. I might even be convincible in some cases, for certain kinds of work and the potential for driving consensus faster. I'm not sure net-net it's less productive overall. But we can wring-hands about it for hours.
Whether he's right about that or not does not nexus on a moral claim. Why is something that is "less productive" equate to something that is immoral? By that measure, people should go to jail for taking vacations.
The man likes Dogecoin more than Bitcoin, I question his moral compass on most topics.
Ya you’ve got a point.
He is literally gaslighting and normies eating it up. He is basically part of fiat cabal and he knows what he is doing.
I don't have a robust working theory of Elon's motivations. But if I was forced to put chips down somewhere on the table, it would be on the "captured by his audience" square.
I respect him for some of the work but he is not a honest person.
Tesla and SpaceX are fucking great. I cheer for their success. But yes, Elon has some ... personality flaws.
Bahahaha what a dumbass! But but but, other people have to go to work… yah dumbass, you can’t make assembly line products from home. What a maroon!
Him drilling down on remote work being "immoral" was probably the most asinine thing I have heard all year.
Him gloating about how he is on top of all the "development" of SpaceX and Tesla was just about as funny to listen to as well.
I was just thinking about this today, am so grateful I didn’t have to travel 4-5 hours daily for work as I used too nor pay for toll and fuel > Min wage in a month.
But when I was an engineer I’ve seen how stringent some rules can be - like chairs are not given to operators because they don’t want them to sit and feel lazy. Hence they stand for 12 hours. Or engineers not allowed to go back unless problem is fixed.
But at the same time, I also see more and more younger employees these days who are not concerned abt job completion, as there is no repercussion in loosing the job - as there are no money concerns nor career drive - and often blame it all on discrimination (most often having no idea what discrimination is)
I also don’t think it’s Elon per se, I think a lot of companies are trying to u-turn the remote work culture
Sorry, this is not a for or against response - just that there are a lot of elements to this and I was thinking abt it this morning
What’s the incentive for most who can work from home to come to the office? Congregating is literally discouraged in MANY office spaces where work is assigned individually.
Many employers stripped away so much fun at work in our obsession over efficiency that they can’t even lean on social currency to lure people back into the office.
Idiots.
I agree this is particularly funny that it’s Elon who chose to use this particular line of argument against remote work. As he is an example of high morals or ethical business decisions 😂 And btw, what is this, are we coming back to the Protestant ethic here? Or this is a scenario where Elon envisions himself as a medieval suzerain and his employees as his vassals. He’s being ridiculous and scary as only ppl with great power, their own ideology and zero empathy can be.
His argument makes no sense, someone give him another billion dollars quick.
