Has anyone had any luck orange pilling yuppies?

If someone has been served well by the system, gone to the elite institutions in the world and you tell them the establishment system is broken and wrong, it’s hard for them to take it seriously. From their point of view the system works very well.

Then the tech yuppies seem even more difficult to interest. They may even own some bitcoin but they think the opportunity has mostly passed. Being in tech, they are wired to look for the next bitcoin. Being over 10 years old, it’s old news, not cutting edge.

I don’t really broach the subject with my friends in SF. Some are founders of tech startups others are leaders in FANG companies. They have always been supportive of me and celebrated that I started my own company and are curious about how business is going but less so about the industry itself. While “disruptive” is a buzzword they are all too familiar with, separation of money from state is far too disruptive to consider given they have faired quite well within the system that exists today.

Wow, well this resonates and highlights the problem but I am missing a solution in this article. Shouldn’t we solve this challenge rather than shrugging our shoulders? I say this without having an answer myself.

As a recruiter, I am seeing more tradfi yuppie Bitcoiners and far fewer tech yuppie bitcoiners. We need their talents in the ecosystem.

Understanding is first step to solving this problem. #Yuppies are culturally still a foreign species to me, altho I understand some of their customs and motivations. They do need Bitcoin as well, our part here is in communicating that in their language. I recommend to everyone who successfully orange pills a yuppy to share their strategy, what type of yuppie their caught and what is their next evolution… journey ahead!

#OrangeYuppies

They wont see until their is an incentive for them to see.

They still believe they are in control.

“The reasonable man adapts himself to the world: the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man.” ― George Bernard Shaw

Do you really believe it’s impossible?

Yes. But #Bitcoin makes the impossible possible.

Ohh how I love Alice 🧡

Well, it’s been 3 years since the article was written. If no solution exists yet today, then my conclusion is that we need another bull market so btc companies can afford to pay competitive salaries and bring more tech talent into the industry 🤷‍♀️ we need more people who have built successful B2C & B2B products.

Once the system starts to fail, with the right seeds planted/orange pilling, they will give it a 2nd look. Bitcoiners continue to call the right shots/project correctly. I think doomer bitcoiners do a disservice though. Try remind me of gold doomers. Never underestimate the length of the fiat ponzi runway. I think fiat policy makers can carry this on far longer than many of us believe possible.

I am beginning to think you are right. It will be a long while before tech yuppies are made uncomfortable by the fiat system.

I was in Mendocino, rural coastal California with some this weekend. They were surprised a place so beautiful did not have a Whole Foods 🧡 gotta love ‘em lol

💯

"Disruptive" is indeed one of those terms, which is uttered to make you rip out your hair out of frustration.

However, nothing beats "problematic". This word should be banned, to be honest.

The yuppie Bitcoin is Worldcoin. There is no changing them.

The key is to belittle them in a kind way…

“It’s okay, I wouldn’t expect someone in your position to understand. I’ll be here in a few years when you’re ready to learn.”

😄🙃 oh man. Of only

*iiiiif

banking the bankless is generally pretty convincing, especially in countries run by corrupt oppressive regimes

While noble, I think most see banking the unbanked as a less profitable business and therefor not going to be successful

definitely works better for those that consider themselves worldly, or human rights advocates. for everyone else, number go up technology makes for a better trojan horse 🧡

It’s a waste of time. They have to get wrecked somehow then find Bitcoin for themselves.

Gotta say, it’s not high on my priority list.

A lot of Bitcoiners old and new struggle with accepting that "orange pilling" doesn't work and even likely backfires on 95%+ of people.

Finance and money, in general, is a hot button topic that inherently makes a lot of people uncomfortable, insecure or weary.

Now couple it with a contrarian digital system that a lot of negative news and scams run on...

And most "orange pilling" leaves a regular person weary, skeptical, thinking you're selling something or just not interested. Too risky. Too abstract.

I've taught, fave to face almost 500 peers in seminar settings and the most receptive methods have been, hands down, the slow, gentle, open suggestions and learning. 100%

Yet so many "BiTcOiN mAxImAlIsTs!!!!!!" Keep trying to yell-teach people.

Yuppies, zoomers, boomers whoever.

The foundational teachings of Bitcoin IMO actually don't have much to do with Bitcoin at all.

💯

But, to directly answer your question, yes. I have acquaintances who are twch yuppies who have been bitcoiners for years. 😉

I struggle even approaching the orange pill discussion with people. I feel like many people hold a lot of old cliches that yes, I can explain, but take time. Also generally the first question is, “how’s your bitcoin doing?”

This implies their thinking in terms of it as an investment and how far their thinking has to come. Inevitably, I just end the discussion wanting to say the famous Satoshi quote, “If you don’t believe me or don’t get it, I don’t have time to try and convince you, sorry”.

Only investment in bitcoin as a speculative curiosity. No yuppie I know believes in bitcoinization. Even when bitcoin futures came out, and with news from fidelity supporting bitcoin, people were literally like, “so what?”

The IQ / System Trust Matrix is great but i think the truth is something even deeper. Fundamentally, they reject Bitcoin because it violates their credentialism and stands to render their hard won position as the ascendant vangaurd and rightful heirs to the status quo of gatekeeping elitism - moot, if not downright silly.

To be a bitcoiner in their eyes is simply to be “stupid and lucky.” To buy (at any price) is stupid, to sell at a top is lucky, to hold through a bear is stupid, to capture multiples of value in the next bull is again just lucky. Remember, in bitcoining “you didn’t 𝙙𝙤 anything.” To bitcoin, you don’t have pass an entrance exam or please some cadre of judges / bosses / high priests - this makes bitcoin base, low, truly in their minds likened to stolen wealth (hence the popularity of environmental anti bitcoin narratives in their ranks).

Of course, they conveniently ignore how many Silicon Valley fortunes - all the people beyond the founders that you’ve never heard of who just happened to be middle / upper middle class white nerds born in Palo Alto between 1960-1980 - accrued to the stupid and lucky as well.

Their self-worth is almost irreconcilably anchored to their having passed through the trails of academic blood sport, various “high society” hazing rituals, and their adeptness at throating the red and pockmarked phallus of Prestige. They have Overseer Syndrome, to the abolishment of slavery, they see only what they stand to loose.

They will not understand until the system turns against them.

Have you tried reverse psychology?

(Telling them they should sell their Bitcoin if they don't understand it.)

Short of the diatribe, here is an angle

that I’ve tried and quite like - still to little / no success tho.

“Money and government as just industries - and LIKE EVERYTHING ELSE that has been disrupted in the past 30 years, they will be as well. It is already well underway and it cannot be stopped. There is no magic rule that precludes Money and Government from being disrupted to the same or even greater extent as Sears or Blockbuster or stagecoaches or whale oil. Believing otherwise is like being a Blockbuster exec, fully self-convinced, that the viewers most loved and anticipated part of the movie watching experience is going to a blockbuster store…just as the citizens favorite parts of the being in the polity are war, taxes, and rent-seeking policing.”

For added flair you can always end with something like “Your gods are already dead, your institutions already collapsed behind the facade - you are a thin man, gyrating pointlessly in the void. SUBMIT TO BITCOIN and experience JOY. Or, like a FOOL, commit to being broken against the wheel. You will learn what the slaughterhouse teaches. You will be aquatinted with the inner belly of the Brazen Bull…”

Ideally you want your eyes to go completely black or fully roll back into your head when you say that last part. It should be said with the intonation of a chant or a mantra. Bonus points if end it by shuffling off, quietly - but frantically, mumbling random BIP-39 words to yourself.

Hope this helps!

😂 you have a way with words! I feel like this is quality content for a poetry slam

🤙🏿⚡️

FOMO

As you said, I’ve always had hard time trying to orange pilling friends… the feedbacks are always the same… but I will keep trying! 🧡

Yes but he was no longer working in the system and had already been black pilled. Rare.

People don’t realize that fiat money is upstream from every problem.

In my experience, best just to ask them what is standing in the way of them saving in btc? Then you get their main concern and can have a discussion around that.
