Just saw 2001 a space odyssey. This was the worst movie I've ever seen. There was basically no dialogue, the plot made no sense, it only had good special effects, am I alone in this?
Discussion
Not alone, but certainly young. Like a fine bottle of wine with age itâll grow on you and trust me. There is a reason itâs been in the top 10 of any top 100 films of all time.
The point of the movie is the occult symbolism.
yes bro, you need to constestualize the year it came out, it basically represented an idea of "future" that today we know, for the first time with fresh ideas. Then its ok to dont appreciate the the potery behing the dialogue choices, there was different age...
you will appreciated it in some years
Yeah the effects were amazing, better than most modern movies. But God damn, the movie was like 10% dialogue, for the climax being watching the life support systems turn off and the guy breaking back into the ship.
I'll grant you that the end is overindulgent. But overall it's a masterpiece, and absolutely mesmerizing.
Many references to Egypt and the desert that go over the head of most people
Roll and fattie and watch it again
No youâre not alone. I also donât get the hype ⌠seems very lame.
I guess it may have been cool when it came out? Or something ⌠maybe everyone who likes it has nostalgic memories or something.
You went into it with an expectation.
Go watch Avatar or the Avengers or something instead.
maybe more your lane ?
Haha, the movie that ruined a very cool subculture overnight.
The fact that the special effects of a 57 year old movie hold up is certainly something. I find that people who are mostly used to watching more contemporary films (80s-present) are less likely to enjoy it. The pacing is slow and the tension takes a long time to build.
I've watched it several times and always enjoy it. The theme of AI gone wrong definitely was ahead of it's time. A lot of the tech imagined for it was also decades into the future, tablet computers, space stations, etc.
But you're not alone. Even upon it's release, a lot of critics shared your view, it was a polarizing film. It's a work of art, so it's value is subjective.
It's sequel is less of an art film, and is more of a "popcorn movie". Themes around nuclear conflict & the Cold War, plus some explanation of what happened in the original make it a good watch.
Bad take XD
What did you think of the soundtrack?
Watch it on acid and youâll get it
It sounds like you are criticizing a classic Kubrick film.
I'm sorry, Ben. I'm afraid I can't let you do that.
Needs more genz fast cut brian rot sound effect transitions skibbidy
I always liked that movie myself. Watched it at least a couple of times now.
here's AI roasting you https://ppq.ai/share/15e4e68c-f4bb-4ed2-989c-847e0f88b8d6
There are worse.
I think it's the best movie ever
It makes sense to me. I love thinking about these extreme - but realistic - issues in sci-fi. What happens when a less advanced race meets a more advanced race? How will technology and tools advance? Will things become less "physical" in the conventional sense?
The plot, i.e. the interactions between normal characters, aren't really supposed to matter very much in this kind of movie. It's all about forcing you to think about the big picture
Yeah itâs fucked
Compare it to other movies of that time for fairness. They are probably way lamer
I think itâs a great movie. It was way ahead of its time for special effects and made movies lien star wars possible. Also we are literally at a time when weâre creating âHALâ . It anticipates AI and the dangers of giving up too much control to it in the 1960s. Also the soundtrack is amazing.
Yep, you are alone on this.
Somehow I missed this blasphemy, but let me simply state that you do not understand Kubrick. If you donât believe me or donât get it, I donât have time to try to convince you, sorry.
