That’s the capital F in FUD—you don’t even need custody to be a target of the state ala #samourai. Just make freedom tech to threaten control…

Seems like self custodial Lighting is a bigger and a better invention than most people give it credit for.

Friend, I think you've entirely missed the memo...

There's a huge difference between doing "whatever you want" like a teenager and doing whatever is right, no matter what.

The entire purpose of bitcoin and nostr is to be DIVORCED from the state, not vulnerable to their arbitrary control.

If anything, we desperately need more "Wild West" attitude, along with refining and hardening our wallets, signers, and other tools.

The entire point of the bitcoin ethos is to make the state irrelevant, completely impotent, and utterly unable to stop anyone from voluntary, peer to peer transactions and communication, or to steal any value from a transaction.

But when 90 percent of nostr wallets are custodial and subject to KYC how are divorcing ourselves from the state??

Sounds like you're using Primal or some other KYC client?

We still have a choice, and mine is definitely NOT the KYC tools...😜

But a majority is choosing the custodial option, what does that say about lighting? Being self sovereign with lightning is a PIA for most people.

Agreed.

We surely need more and better tools.

BTW,

I see no problem with short term custodial solutions; keep savings on chain, put a tiny amount in your wallet to spend...

Definitely not wrong with that in the short term but it can’t be the default position long term otherwise we are just recreating the very system we are trying to escape from with gatekeepers and potential to have your funds frozen.
