It's getting harder & harder to get through my Nostr feed since so many previously dormant npubs are posting again.

Signal:Noise ratio of my feed also needs to be addressed.

Nostr adoption seems to be 📈

Taking responsibility of your own algorithm requires effort. But the payoff is worth it.

💯

My strategy for managing my feed has been pretty good up until now.

I now need to take it up a level.

I feel like Nostr is consuming too much of my day.

I've been using the one strike policy:

Follow basically everyone that interacts with me (as long as they're active every week or so).

Then one note from them that 'feels' wrong, I unfollow.

I've been muting then while still following them.

If they get boosted by someone, I see their note & I might unmute. Too often I've ended up muting then again.

It's a fine balance because I don't want to create an echo chamber.

There's a difference between expressing risks/threats & complaining/whinging. I can't stand to hear people playing the victim.

Yeah, it does seem to be getting more active and more diverse

I'm a big believer in the clean digital space mentality. Life is dynamic, so it just seems silly to me to pretend it's not.

I've recently felt like I've hit a point where much signal has become the noise. It's time to either level up or step out, but I haven't found my new signal yet. 😅

I've had several strategies to keep signal:noise high. None of them are working anymore 😂

Going to switch to a user list strategy with close friends & low noise folks on it. I figure some days I may not make it through my whole follow feed.

I do that the opposite way. brainstorm.ninja makes it easy to create a huge list of active & closely connected npubs. Then I went through it & removed anyone I was pretty sure I'd like to continue following for my main feed. It's pretty nice.

Ok - I'm going to have to look at that.

🙏

Turns out when I am the algorithm the feedis a disaster. Cleansing my timeline of certain hashtag and unfollowing certain content has been helping. Genuinely felt like twitter for me this week with lots of doom news stories and Bitcoin price discussion. I just want to hear about what people are growing in their yard, chickens and cows. In fact I think I could manage with something like #onlyfarms as my solo feed source 😂

*chuckles in snow on the frozen ground until May*

But I don't talk about doom or bitcoin prices...

Sounds like you need to start a brutal “unfollowing purge”

My approach:

- first if nothing has been posted in 4 weeks, then not active, and can unfollow

- 2nd: if I don’t see any recent posts I value, then unfollow

- 3rd: if the account re-appears in the future, then you can re-follow, and the energy has re-aligned

4th: (and this is really just for me, but I wonder if anyone else gets it) don’t worry about other peoples expectations as a follower. They’ll get over it. Aim to get what you actually want

🙏🏻

Ps - I totally agree that I am looking for real stories from real people

#permaculture might be of interest to you

#smij

Yup - it's a good way to invite a lot of hashtag abusers onto your feed though.

Thank you! Yes this perfect

#hashtags is the #best way to #find #people to #follow and others to find you. #curating hashtags to follow #istheway.

Yeah the last week has been brutal.

I agree it's the negativity & anger that I really don't like. It leaves me feeling heavy.

I'm going to create a carefully curated & encrypted follow list for my own benefit. I used to rely on the for circumventing the algorithm on Twitter (until they broke it).

Ok so how do you make lists? That sounds like what I need too

https://listr.lol/ is the only way I know how at the moment.

If you're creating a big list, save every now & then. I've gotten 20 odd npubs deep & then accidentally moved away from the page. Very frustrating.

I shared some beautiful snowy outdoors videos this morning. And yes, definitely some gloomy, sad news all over x 😔

It’s cool to see the migration happening, admittedly slowly but surely, as the longer I look at it, it seems inevitable (yes nothing is certain, but open vs closed protocol, trend of censorship etc)

Now it’s up to us, the user, to curate our feeds better

Which is a feature and not a bug

I've always felt like Nostr adoption would be similar to Bitcoin's but faster because it has less cost.

Inevitable ≠ Imminent

It's feeling like they're both getting close to their tipping point in adoption.

Adoption is a good thing but I agree it is harder to manage the feed. I have recently been going through and unfollowing a lot of people that haven’t posted for a long time and those that don’t post content that I align with or am interested in. I still have more of that clean up to do but with the recent newcomers to Nostr I have also ended up following a lot of new people.

I’ve come to the realisation that I will never see everything that people post like I did in the early days. Instead I just periodically check the profiles of the people whose notes I specifically don’t want to miss.

I'm thinking a user list of those special & those relatively high signal people.

Nostr has had noisy periods before but not like this.

Yeah I think lists would help but not supported in Damus for me though.. I did find recently that you can build custom feeds in Nostur and I think you may be able to do some sort of list filtering in Amethyst.

Yeah Amethyst has had it for a while.

I was hoping they'd have list management functionality by now.

Lists is next on our list….lol I’ll see myself out
