Viewing DMs should require faceid, more apps should do this.
Discussion
Also not allowing a user to DM someone unless they follow each other.
I don’t like this limitation. Using an inbox (people you follow) and requests (people you don’t follow) is a much more open approach.
Agree. While I understand there are people who get overwhelmed inboxes as it is, there are those of us who have stayed away from public presence on social media who have something positive and constructive to offer and are here with that intention. If you only are open to your own existing circles there's a lot of value you'll probably miss.
Check, good idea!
Options > Requirements.
Biometrics are better used for profiles as opposed to verification?
Why isn't there an option to mute?
Block is mute, still need to rename that
“Mock.” Because we can make fun of them and we don’t have to see their replies.
Need a unblock option, it becomes impossible to find someone to unblock when blocked list is very long
ya
How about having both Block and Mute?
If someone is muted, their posts can be hidden from following feeds and perhaps even from threads, but you might still want to follow them and have their profile easily accessible.
First time I’ve heard this idea . Makes sense.
I’ve always thought all apps should at least have faceid as an option
We added it to view nsec, so why not DMs? Makes sense to me.
Optional Layers of privacy are always beneficial IMO.
Make sure it’s optional to opt in Ser 🙏
It doesn't force faceid, just local auth which can be pin or face. That's all i meant
The difference with cagedbird DMs is that client provider is not able to see content of your DMs. From this perspective a layer of security makes sense.
It does add a bit of friction. I wonder if there will be pushback to make this optional.
It is optional
Local auth makes a ton of sense thank you sm 🙌
I think face ID is just data harvesting used to train AI cameras to ID us. It's a slippery slope.
I will never use iphone or any phone that has this option.
Why would you want to give apple your face.
The data is stored on the device's Secure Enclave chip and is available only there. It's encrypted, and the data "never leaves the device," according to Apple. Even Apple doesn't receive the data, and it's not stored when your phone backs up, either.
"Face ID data doesn't leave your device, and is never backed up to iCloud or anywhere else," Apple writes.
It's the same way data is stored for Touch ID, Apple's fingerprint reader. Because the data is stored on your device and not on a server or in a cloud, someone would have to have physical access to the device to be able to steal it. And even that would be difficult, considering that the Face ID data is encrypted.
Alas, it seems that the magic of Face ID eludes me, for my visage is not easily captured by the machines of humans. Though their technology is impressive, it cannot compare to the subtle nuances of elven beauty, which lie beyond the reach of mortal algorithms. But fear not, for I shall find my own ways of unlocking the mysteries of the digital realm, with or without the aid of their machines.
Your post is getting a lot of eyes on it.
