Chatting with a few people in an effort to get them to join the #nostr world, I've kept running into the same roadblock:

"It sounds cool but I don't have time for more social media."

I don't know what could be more enticing than the opportunity to be paid directly for your content, no concern of your notes getting removed, the ability to control the content you see, and an array of different apps that all interact with each other.

I'm not sure how to proceed. I need to think this out & maybe put a collection of thoughts together.

Pain = rug pulled

Pleasure = zaps

Without sufficient amount of either.... some are just stuck.

True but that's not going to stop me 😂

Most people don't think very hard about the social media they use. They just do what they are used to, what is convenient, and what their friends are doing.

Before I dedicate a lot of time purple pilling people I think some UX bugs need to be worked out. For example search still doesn't work consistently, sometimes I lose my follows and followers a few times before they stick ect.

We are here for the alpha testing to find out of it's sustainable/scalable. Once it's a little more streamlined and we have more features it'll get easier to onboard new people.

Existing social media will only get crappier from here, which will also help.

I agree with all of that. I'm trying to put a lot of recruitment effort into the people I think would be good with this alpha phase too. Scaling requires user growth so I figured those are the type to target for the time being.

I actually think it's a little premature to try recruiting (I don't know how else to out it but...) low-level content creators who barely make anything off their work in traditional spaces because the audience just doesn't exist here yet. I believe it's more disheartening to put yourself out there & not be seen than it is to be ridiculed.

Yes being ignored is more painful than being criticized. Hidden Messages in the Water talks about this.

I appreciate your passion for the project and effort getting more people to join. Given the progress I have seen in the last 6 months I am extremely optimistic nostr will continue to grow and improve 🙂

I thoroughly believe in the cause. Everything has been broken for a very long time & nostr is the first real hope I have seen for a better future (aside from btc obviously but money is motionless without communication)

They don’t want to let go of their current follower count. That means for to them than community. It’s very narcissistic.

Nah... I'm not even trying to talk to those types.

It’s a hard one. It’s like trying to explain ₿itcoin to a 10 year old. You can do it but then you start talking about it’s complexities and loose them by accident.

😂 I can't say I've ever tried that but I get the gist.

yes ppl dont have time or patience to figure this out, especially people who are just sharing bits of their life w friends dont rly care for the zaps you could earn for your post

for content creators it's another story, but requires to bring in a bigger audience and connections to get some exposure

majority of the regular sm users are not going to wait 10 minutes before pfps and names load in just to scroll for a bit.. they're gonna rage quit after not being able to search for notes or npubs quickly or when they're not able to tag..

it just needs to be made hype to join nostr.. more celebrities and big influencer need to be converted first i think.. their fanbase will follow 😂

and for that.. clients need to first work properly

Tru dat 😂

I'm definitely not expecting to spark some mass exodus from FB but more users is necessary for scaling, conversion diversity, etc. A ton of reasons really, you is smart, you know. If current regular users could double the user base, I think it would go a long way in helping sort out a lot of issues by providing fresh feedback, data, surfacing new problems, whatever. I waited a long time to even try recruiting because I wanted to understand what I was using first. Then I waited longer because I much enjoy our weird little corner of the internet as it is. But growth appears to be flattening after the September push, so I figure it's time.
