removing my other displays is making me have a vibe like, idk, i think i like this

i had a 24" Dell UHD panel back in 2017, and i got very used to it, and was pretty pissed off when i had to leave ti behind in Serbia

i've got a 32" QD-OLED panel now, and it's lovely, and maybe it is a good thing for me to get used to having a single UHD panel, because this thing is a lot less to cart around as i need to relocate in the next 3-6 months one way or another

i mean, just the colour rendition and the energy efficiency...

fuck it

tired as fuck of my games having the cursor fall into other displays and then i click and opa, good thing i'm not playing competitive MP games eh?

it's got so on my nerves that i think it's worth it

just one, good quality display, with 240hz refresh rate

the state of linux display drivers and GUI engines is an absolute travesty, and i personally think this is a direct attack on FOSS and nobody is talking about this, even though it's the elephant in the room for the linux desktop

solution: use the most high res display you can get for your budget, and fuck the whole multi display thing

wayland has fucked that up, completely, thanks, go fuck yourself you fucking glowie cunts

32" QD-OLED with 224hz sounds incredible. Which one is it?

I’m stuck with 32” HP U32 and I wish I had waited and spent like +200EUR on it to get either higher refresh rates or a better panel or even both.

I am just upset that Linux Guis aren't natively multi-user.

not sure what you mean, GDM etc have a login screen... you mean such as having two users to one pc, with two monitors and two keyboards and mice?

i think that is theoretically possible, but difficult to set up

I mean, I should be able to vnc in to a machine on my account while I is being used by someone else. It works great on the terminal with ssh. GUI should be just as easy.

Also would be cool if I could connect what amount to a gui tty terminal with keyboard, mouse, display, and speakers; via Ethernet.

I have always wanted one massive multi-user machine for my family.

Bring back the mainframe!!

it actually can be done if you have got the time and patience to do it

especially now, i mean, if you can wire it all up with gigabit ethernet, you can literally run remote X sessions on shitty hardware and have 30+fps on everything, which is gonna be fine for most people

i've never understood how mainframe works, seems like magic to me, like some kind of simple old school parallel processing scheme

i think he means, in wayland. cause yeah the multi session stuff was super ez in X11

haha yeah, see, another point against gayland

i mean, what kind of lunatic doesn't understand that a unix terminal bitrate is literally CPU memory access speed?

only retards.

and seriously, memory transfer rate has been above the required for a 30fps GUI if you add an adequate high speed image compression algorithm in the picture... like what is used in RDP and VNC, but with memory bitrates, far higher, and with parallelism easy to maintain that framerate

i mean, it's unbelievable how slow progress has been in this part of computer technology, the absolute worst, yet, it can be done

what's the name of that discord fork that does real time UI streaming? i forget, some dude i know roped me in to helping him do some online test using it to do the answers for him a few years back, i wasn't cool with that but... yeah, parsec

if parsec can do it, the whole industry should be providing systems that can do it

parsec can do it

wayland and macos and windows and all the other gay shit

see, even android has this working, but not the main desktop environments

how does that even make sense?

I was all excited when they started talking about Wayland since it seemed building in remote terminals would be a no brainer, but instead they decided that it would be better to make multi-user support worse.

i think you can do this.. but its gonna take a deep dive into headless wayland sessions.

potentially rdp vs vnc too. 🔥

haha, yeah, funnel them into WINDOWS RDP go ahead

man, if it wasn't more obvious

when i was a mere early teenager people were doing multiple remote desktop sessions over 10 base T ethernet

that's about 800kb/s network speed btw, circa 2000

i don't even know how to express my acidic, sour, and salty disposition towards the way that this technology has been raped by assholes like Bill Gates and whatever the name of that homo that raped apple computer was name, jobs, yeah, jobs, that's the one, steve fucking homo jobs

u gotta stop torturing yourself w amd man.. 😂😁 i agree tho, one display is best.

this case had nothing to do with the video driver... for once

nope, this was ... idk what, the input driver, same problem on wailin as hix, and it only popped up like a week ago

i swear, i gotta start setting boundaries on updates

it should be, 99% nope

how about, i consider doing an update on equinox/solstice

next one is march 22, sounds good to me... now, how do i disable all the update prompt nag bullshit?

well, ya the whole reason i run arch is, its as close to upstream as can get. so when i file a wayland bug, easy for upstream to repro and not get stuck in LTS hell, 🎇 gets fixed in a week or so. generally, its been very stable for me

yeah, i have run arch and manjaro at several times but i'm done with it

i'm just turning off the automatic naggy shit

i'll update when i run into a bug with an app

i don't run servers out of my own pc that i didn't write, and i keep my language and its libraries well up to date

so what vulnerabilities are there?

browser... maybe need to check for browser version updates

discord and telegram manage that shit themselves

what else is there on a desktop machine that are actual security issues?

if it's a function issue, then the motivation is clear but security issues depend on actual remote access vulnerability, and that's almost nothing on a desktop machine

my problem with freezing updates, is the next update is *guaranteed to break

im a rolling release maxi

yeah, i'm over it, i can't just switch over in an hour to a rolling release from where i am right now and i am getting regular bullshits from updates and i just don't want to know there is an update at all, unless i fucking ask, at this point

idk how to explain this

back in like 2007 i first experienced X black screen after a kernel update on ubuntu

decades, literally 20 years i have put up with this shit

no, not any more... i draw a line in the sand today, it's over, i don't trust other programmers, and i have worked with many and have a great deal of experience that they are assholes and wrong

Can you not ditch wayland and run X11?

i already do run X most of the time

that's not the problem, the problem is that so much energy is going into supporting this gayland shit that bugs are leaking into the X implementations and the overall level of effort going into X11 now is almost a trickle, and gayland is totally still beta bullshit and has a really bad, fundamentally wrong architecture, and actually doesn't solve any problems for which X was built

in my opinion, wayland is an attack on linux desktop
