Does anyone have experience placing wool insulation in homes in lieu of synthetic materials?

I really don’t think you want to have that as insulation.

First thing I thought of was that sounds like a fire hazard.

Woll doesn't really burn. It has a very high ignition point (~1000+° F) and will go out when removed from a flame.

Oh wow. Didn't know that. Thanks!

Great idea. Sounds pricey. Bitcoin standards 🤙

Nope but it’s meant to be a good option from what I’ve read. Popular in the UK but needs to be protected from insects (chemically treated) and it’s thermally not quite as good as the man made stuff. Perhaps a little more expensive too.

No experience insulating homes with wool, but have read it needs to be well treated against pests, to ensure they don't eat it or live/breed in it.

Perhaps RockWool. No experience myself, however here is a video from RR Buildings:

Moths. Not fun.

I have a historic home restoration carpenter on speed dial if you really do have questions about this sort of thing. DM me? I can relay some questions!

The most beautiful homes I’ve seen in my area are 80+ years old. You must live in a beautifully crafted home.

That level of craftsmanship is rare nowadays.

On wool:

-how is it possible to protect insulation wool from bugs over the life of the house

-any recommended brands, suppliers, and/or anti-bug treatments

-how does the master carpenter perceive the different benefits in living in a house built with wool insulation vs synthetics

-any other important considerations on wool insulation?

🙏

I'll see if I can corner him and ask these!
