Yeah. Iβve been running a node for two years and still get nervous working with it.

It made me realize that a casual user or merchant is not going to set up a Lightning node for payments. Thatβs why I switched my focus on building an e-cash based payment system that looks like Lightning.

Yes, and cost is relative to the need. If custodial solutions get targeted more and go down, along with the large routing hubs, weβre at smaller p2p nodes interacting with one another.

not everyone is meant to run a node same as not everyone is meant to run an exchange or any other business for that matter. running a full node fair enough. there isn't much that can go wrong. Running a LN, you must be willing to take on the responsibility and you must have the actual skill to operate and maintain it.
Everyone is capable, if they want to learn. But not everyone wants to learn. If you can safely drive to the store and back you have all the mental ability you need to run a node, including a LN node.
That said THERE IS NO NEED FOR EVERYONE TO DO SO and I have never seen a single serious bitcoiner make the argument the way you infer.
Sorry you sound like an idiot here. The point that "anyone can" is that is what makes the system decentralized. Anyone can is not the same as everyone will. Can means "they are not prevented from doing so".
Not everyone CAN start a bank even if they had the money. But anyone CAN run a node. You sound like and ETH shitcoiner or worse a BCH tard.

It's a gradual process.. start em with custodial, if that sticks, they'll eventually have enough sats to start to 'care', or they won't. Most won't, they won't even sign up for a website, and parrot what they heard on CNBC and use Facebook connected to venmo. π«
