Bitcoiners will whine and moan about the government gaslighting people and then turn around and try to convince you that everyone is capable of running a Lightning node.

Yeah. I’ve been running a node for two years and still get nervous working with it.

πŸ’― It's not for the faint of heart. I'm happy there are people that do it of course.

It made me realize that a casual user or merchant is not going to set up a Lightning node for payments. That’s why I switched my focus on building an e-cash based payment system that looks like Lightning.

I agree, because most people don't have the time for managing and monitoring it even if they do have the funds to open adequately large channels.

Yup. In the early days of the internet β€˜Be your own ISP’ never really took off, as I recall.

πŸ’―

There are more capable than are currently running one. (Shitty English but you know what I meanβ€”just having my coffee.)

This is true because I am capable and I don't run one, because it simply costs too much for what I need lightning for. There are probably many in my situation.

Yes, and cost is relative to the need. If custodial solutions get targeted more and go down, along with the large routing hubs, we’re at smaller p2p nodes interacting with one another.

It will not be a dull ride! ⚑️

Not everyone, but every nerd cousin is a potential node runner.

Uncle Jim might just be the way in the end

not everyone is meant to run a node same as not everyone is meant to run an exchange or any other business for that matter. running a full node fair enough. there isn't much that can go wrong. Running a LN, you must be willing to take on the responsibility and you must have the actual skill to operate and maintain it.

And it's still everything mainly in beta lol

Everyone is capable, if they want to learn. But not everyone wants to learn. If you can safely drive to the store and back you have all the mental ability you need to run a node, including a LN node.

That said THERE IS NO NEED FOR EVERYONE TO DO SO and I have never seen a single serious bitcoiner make the argument the way you infer.

Sorry you sound like an idiot here. The point that "anyone can" is that is what makes the system decentralized. Anyone can is not the same as everyone will. Can means "they are not prevented from doing so".

Not everyone CAN start a bank even if they had the money. But anyone CAN run a node. You sound like and ETH shitcoiner or worse a BCH tard.

I like when people respond β€œjust run a VM” or β€œsetup a container” (or is it docker?).

πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

EVERYONE CAN

JUST DON’T BE A LAZY FUCK

Half the people you know can't convert an email to a pdf. Everyone absolutely cannot run a lightning node.

Wrong. πŸ˜‘

You can get a umbrel home, plug in the power and Ethernet cable and you have a node.

Many other ready to deploy options, stop making excuses

This is about Lightning nodes dumbfuck.

So angry

Umbrel comes with lightning nodes πŸ˜‚

And Channel/liquidity management is costly and confusing and time consuming.

You can convert an email to a pdf?

Yes. Print it on paper. Then scan that paper to pdf. 😝🀣

And then you can email it again! 🀯

It's a gradual process.. start em with custodial, if that sticks, they'll eventually have enough sats to start to 'care', or they won't. Most won't, they won't even sign up for a website, and parrot what they heard on CNBC and use Facebook connected to venmo. πŸ«
