I often praise Android, but I can also complain about Android issues too. Though, this may exist on iOS as well. Often when traveling around town or walking around my neighborhood, my phone will connect to open WiFi networks that I've connected to before. This would generally be fine, unless I'm streaming music, a video, or attempting to do a voice search at the exact moment this handoff from cellular to weak WiFi happens. The result is whatever I'm listening to stops working or my search result fails. The fix is generally for me to say a swear word or two and then turn off WiFi until I return home. I don't mind switching to WiFi automatically, but not while I'm driving or not while I'm walking and streaming something.

Change your settings so it will ask you before connecting, it works for me
Yeah, The personal entertainment aspect of privacy is tricky. Have you heard of wiphone? Just voip over Wi-Fi connection, No gps, Built on arduino board. Full tin foil hat. I like to joke there is looser mode on an iPhone, When you have little to no money, you can use Skype and download all your purchases so your iPhone is basically an iPod that can send and receive calls when you are on the internet. The separation of internet and life can make a difference we don’t realize. There is a social media account called alpha dad, A guy constantly on his phone barking commands in a self important way. I do use my phone a lot now, But I do try to stay off it in public except for music in the background. Laptops are just more powerful enough that learning and streaming while multitasking is way more practical, Trying to code on a phone is ridiculous.
It’s an issue on iOS as well.
I turn off my WiFi whenever I leave the house and re-enable it (+ VPN) when I arrive at work or wherever I will use the local WiFi.
Because that moment of “ah fuck why’d the music stop” drives me nuts
On iphone I use shortcuts app for that. Prob several was to do it. But you could set a script to turn off Wi-Fi when you leave the house and turn back on when you arrive back home. Etc. not sure if android has a similar automation app.
That’s why I never connect to Wi-Fi whether public or secure. I never have that issue. That is not an Android problem that is cell phone problem. Happens to all phones when picking up a faint Wi-Fi when driving by or you happen to be in the vicinity.
