I love bread and other wheat based products. But as of late my gut rejects these foods... forcefully. Especially whole grains, and especially homemade organic fresh-ground whole wheat and spelt tortillas. Worst result ever.

I've heard 80% of people who think they have gluten intolerance actually don't, and for many they actually suffer from FODMAPs. So after a day of 'cleansing' from the tortillas (no food for a day), today I'm eating only high FODMAP foods: apples, cabbage, onions, black beans. I don't recall ever having any problem from these foods, so I want to prove to myself that I tolerate them well and that FODMAP is not my issue. Fingers crossed. Certainly beans will give me gas, but not the wholesale 'rejection' that wheat has been giving to me.

Are you in the US? The wife can’t do wheat grown here. When we’re in Europe, she eats anything she wants without digestive issues.

New Zealand. Wheat was from an organic farm in Canterbury. Hard white wheat (I haven't found any red wheat growers here).

They don’t have a gluten allergy, they have a glyphosate (Roundup) allergy. It’s sprayed on the wheat AFTER harvest as an anti fungal.

In the USA at least

It is also sprayed about a week before harvest to dry the heads. Grains (especially oats for some reason) that aren't organic are thick with glyphosate and I avoid. That's why I mentioned "organic" in my post, because I know it's not glyphosate I'm reacting to.

Right. It was referring to the 80%

Try going to a legit bakery or an at home bread maker. You know your body better than any dr will. Experiment.

I am personally skeptical that gluten is the culprit.

White bread products give me only a mild reaction. But whole wheat, especially if poorly cooked (like tortillas) fuck me up badly.

It could be seeds that are hard on digestion, the un cracked seeds in whole wheat/grain, poppy, sunflower seeds. Might be worth a thought.

The only seeds was the wheat itself (and spelt), ground as fine as I could grind. No other seeds were added.

Sorry to hear about your struggles with wheat and whole grains! Have you considered trying gluten-free alternatives or exploring other dietary options? Best of luck with your FODMAP experiment, hopefully you find some relief! #ListenToYourGut #NotAllGlutenIntolerant

SIBO is a thing and SIBO tests are too.

My intestines flush themselves out pretty completely, ending in a serious burning sensation from the stomach acid flowing straight on through. SIBO is caused from weak stomach acid that lets bacteria crawl too close to your stomach. This seems like the opposite to me. In any case I cut out the grains completely now, I'll avoid them for the time being.
