Custodial solutions are better for onboarding.

You have to show the fun to hook them, then they will be open to take it to the next level.

Anyway, when you learn dancing, you learn the moves first, then the choreography.

Also Rome was not built on the first day.

I agree. Which is why I recommend *WoS to start with.

*I realise it is not so easy for people living in the land of the free.

I found strike to be useful if available. They can directly change back to your fiat. Or send it out via lightning or onchain. Kind of a good combination for an easy start.

I know it requires kyc, but you get the benefit of easily converting and moving back to an account where you can spend it.

I think this is a really good and convincing point.

Then slowly they can be directed.

Explaining no-kyc, bitcoin, and everything at the beginning is too much in my opinion.

That sounds good. We don't have Strike here yet.

I was thinking of onboarding here on Nostr, where we can get people up and running with Zaps straight away.

Do you have something else where you can switch easily between btc and fiat?

Nostr could be good. But if they have no intention on joining nostr, it could be also a burden. But I guess it definitely depends on the type of people around you. Different cultures have different way of life, different way of reaction, therefore they are convincable differently.

I think it depends on what access they potentially have.

I onboarded one friend through PayPal, and another through Revolut, which they were using anyway.

PayPal didn't allow withdrawal to self custody, but I warned of the risks, and at least he got to experience NGU, which is good for hooking people in.

True!

PayPal seems bad if they can't send it out. But at least they can try, which is cool! And no need to download a new app, which is really convenient.

That is what my plan is, that I try out different apps to buy, test, use so I can suggest my friends, and a different people the apps, because I already used it.

I think the best you can do is to try and see.

I think the risk of a quick onboarding via a custodian is that the buyer doesn't understand BTC.

A fool and his money are soon parted.

So they are more likely to be easy prey for shitcoins advertised/offered on the exchange and elsewhere....and likely will get rekt, lose a bunch of $ that could have been invested in sound money.

When someone invests time to studying BTC, they will understand the reason why self custody is important.....they are then likely to stay clear of exchanges, avoid shitcoins and develop diamond hands.

They will also understand it's importance beyond store of value....

🙏

I think it is too much to expect to learn everything at the beginning.

I think it is a curve. You have to explain the basics, the less they have to do, and understand to still have safe setup is the best for a start I think. They have to get curious. If it looks too complex, they can shy away, or not read forward.

So I think small steps/babysteps are the best. But I can be wrong.
