This is the entertainment-centric mentality I want to move nostr (or, at least Coracle) away from. It doesn't matter to me that my feed is always fresh whenever I open it — this is one of those "dark patterns" legacy social media implements. Ironically, nostr does a better job than twitter or youtube and giving you new stuff whenever you open your app because of the use of reverse-chronological feeds.

Anyway, the model I want to move to is one in which "reading everything" is possible, or at least a reasonable thing to do. One in which interaction is a result of interest, rather than boredom. In this model, you would never miss the content you really want to see, and less important content would be put into a digest or filtered using algorithms.

It’s both.

The folllw-many-people is not for the freshness, it’s to widen the spectrum of interests and interactions I see.

Again, I think both have their place.

Yes. 'Follow' means 'connected'. A personal global. On a list means, whatever the individual wants it to mean.

Yes, both have their places. Different clients can have different design goals to achieve either or both.

Yeah, I agree with this. And I know people operate differently, so if you want to have a constant drip of stuff to fill your brain with, fine. But mindful social is much harder, and possibly more rewarding.

i'm a small follow maxi myself, i have less than 50

much more than this and there's too much for me to see

yeah, im trying to increase the accounts i follow and will narrow it down over time.

Agreed. The idea of curation goes out the window when you start following that many people. Do you want people to follow? Wade into global and narrow down what you see by keyword or hashtag searches. Does it feel like you're following too many people? Go through your follow list and start pruning. How do you choose who you prune? That is ultimately up to the end user but the criteria I might use is: "Are they posting frequently enough for your liking?" "Has their content shifted too far away from what you were following them for?" "Have they recently posted something that gravely violates your ethics and morals?" things like that.

I totally agree

This is what I like about having multiple lists. I can read every note in my Priority list, and just scan haphazardly through my kind-3 contacts "followed" list.

🎯

Agreed, lists are a great start, this is how I do it as well

And the best way to do this is with listr.lol ? Or you have any other suggestions?

Coracle has people lists built in, and you can use them to generate custom feeds

Will definitely have a look at it. Thanks.

Does Gossip have lists? I only know of listr.lol I think and it’s not very useful to me.

I and I think many others would stack rank high in prioritization wishlists.

Yeah gossip has lists. Prominently.

Multiple lists 🎯

I’d like to view notes from a list of experts on XYZ, but I want my WoT to curate the list of experts bc how the heck am I supposed to know who the experts are in XYZ

This is something I plan to add to gossip...viewing the feed defined by someone else's list.

I agree 💯 this for your groups use of coracle white listing product.

I’ve run multiple paid memberships and this was always a hard part to overcome is how scattered content got that was valuable. I think this is a great way to solve that problem.

And because of the network effects of #nostr it can grow faster and also more sustainably too.

agree this is a worthwhile goal

At the very least, have the option of viewing content as we are currently doing or the way you describe

Follow Dunbars number, and develop real relationships inspite of being pressured to be a growth engine for nostr devs.

bots n alerts -> not spam using LISTS segregate them
