The #Canadian federal government announces that they're pivoting to being "digital first" and "digital by design".
The newly appointed Citizens' Services minister, Terry Beech pointed out that being digital first doesn't mean there won't be in-person services but people can get services completely online.
He said that in the near future Canadians wouldn't need to go to the Passport Office to get their passports renewed.

nostr:npub1xtarqpp8szh3emv6fuy3qxtkl0eer9a0snf9kttxkkavt7nlrx7sd9wd29 Aside from passports, there's no national ID system in Canada. The ID that people carry are usually issued by each province & they're usually driver's licenses (or provincial photo ID cards for those without a driver's license).
Some provinces like British Columbia allow people to login to gov't services with their BC ID credentials.
There is limited support using bank creds as a "sign-in partner" to login to some federal gov't services.
Overall, it's pretty disjointed atm...
