I’ve been thinking about non-freedom tech communities on nostr.

Chrisitan community on nostr came to mind.

How do y’all grow this community?

Is there a marketing site for “nostr Christian community” that might include e.g. people talking about Christianity on nostr, recent/trending Christian topics on nostr etc.. ?

Is there a community champion or organizer?

You need a community organizer (which developers usually are not). And coming at it from "find Christian stuff on nostr" is not the way either. Communities are more cohesive and deeply connected than just interest a topic. Usually, existing communities find software that they can use. Sometimes this software supports the community, but more often it sadly erodes the community in small ways over time. It's a very hard problem.

Would you agree that there is some form of Christian community on nostr, today?

If yes, then what is the cost of creating a marketing website/funnel that provides the following info:

-previews popular/trending notes

-shows social proof of people - e.g. hodlbod, Jordan, Laser PFPs

-instructions of how to “join” or interact with said community

-community champion and their contact info

Sure, there are christians on nostr, and they recognize each other to some extent, but the things you cited are not sufficient conditions for a "community". Listen to my interview with Scott Mann for a good perspective on that.

Treating communities as demographics to be exploited for growth of the protocol is exactly the thing legacy platforms did that we're running away from here.

There are a lot of Christians here. I would say a big majority. You just need to connect with them meaningfully on an individual basis. Do the legwork. People tend to form very lose connections here. They follow those with like minded beliefs. If you are open and honest about your intentions to bring Christians together. You do not need a website, marketing expenses, or anything like that.

Nostr users seem to have an allergic reaction to these things.

Treat Nostr like you would as if you asked the priest at the end of Mass to make an announcement to everyone. Hey we are having a get together at this place at this time to talk more about our faith. Join us for a conversation and some good times if you are interested. No pressure whatsoever.

That is really all it would take. Maybe a hashtag at the most so people can readily discover when and where the next meeting takes place.

Maybe “community” is too strong a word.

I am looking for solutions to the problem “nostr is for the coin people” first impression.

How might we create entry points to nostr that sidestep the critical mass of discussion?

I think just let it happen. I do think people who connect with their communities online via "community clients" will convert at some rate to nostr as a whole once they organically discover it. This has always been my thesis about communities, and in a sense it's a marketing tool, but the difference is that it puts the interests of the user first. Nostr shouldn't be a solution looking for a problem, it's ok if adoption is slow. But also, people with a following going nostr-only is probably the other big lever.

I dont disagree with what you are saying.

What I am saying is there is an existing problem of people turning away from nostr who have joined nostr and not found their people.

This finding is discovered and perpetuated outside nostr, which I believe to keep people away as a second order consequence.

Oh, sure, for that I think better discovery tools would be the way forward. Mapping of topics to people in a decentralized way (I attempted this with nip 32 collections) would get people started, and web of trust would bring them the rest of the way. But you're right, the people have to be there first. So again, I would just say let it happen, we'll have ven diagrams overlapping with bitcoin at first, but it'll expand.
