If you are a libertarian, why do you care about which and how genders are available for people to self identify as?
I am a male identifying as a male so this is not directly impacting me, but all the recent gender talk on here made me think.
If my neighbour was self identifying as something else than male or female I couldn’t care less. They have the liberty and individual freedom to do whatever they want.
Why would libertarians care? Am I missing something?

The only thing you're missing is that you are assuming we're dealing with serious people who evenly apply the principles they vocally support across all areas of life.

1) I agree with you completely.
2) I think people are often upset when people try to ignore the XX or XY biological reality. Or try to force / coerce others to use certain language (pronouns) or use a threat of violence if you “misgender” them. This is strictly not libertarian.
My position exactly. Identify as a bee for all I care, just don't try and force me to believe you can produce honey.
Caring which gender a random stranger decides they want to identify with is about as asinine as caring what their favorite color is.

You’re 100% on point. Be free. A Libertarian is not concerned with these matters of personal choice. Libertarian’s don’t engage in debate/disagreement over one’s personal freedoms.

Because they don't just keep it to themselves and force others to play their game. And if you don't play the game, you're attacked, guilt tripped, and gaslit until you reject the evidence of your eyes and participate in a lie. And what do you know? That's exactly what communist Russia did. And we learned that lesson already.
So the only thing to do is actively oppose it.

Exactly. We should not care about gender identity or gender expression in terms of how that person chooses to present themselves and live their life.
A legitimate tension does arise however when gender expression is conflated with biological sex and used to demand a unquestionable right of entrance into spaces (bathrooms, sports) that are rightfully partitioned on the basis of biological sex. The first is matter of suspension of truth, biological fact and the second is an issue of safety and fairness.
Surely there are still other issues at play like how most (basically all) anti-trans animosity is directed toward MtoF transitions, yet this animosity seems to largely evaporate when the transitioned person is highly passing on heteronormative female beauty standards. A similar dynamic can be surmised from trans porn being the no 1 or 2 search category in many of the deep red states…
Libertarians are not really involved in the whole gender issue. This gender issue has been overblown by the government targeted towards the republicans and democrats. Government is using it to divide them and make them fight.
It's only a extremely tiny of people that care about pronouns and gender. The government and corporations pushed everyone to start thinking about gender and start using pronouns.
The issue what the Trump administration has against gender and pronouns is they are purposely pushing it towards children and confusing them. Purposely.
Most libertarians don't want the government dictating or knowing what gender someone is. Libertarians don't want the government telling a private business what gender logo to put on their bathrooms of their business. Let the bus owner decide.
Republicans and Democrats on the other hand like telling each other and dictating to each other what logo to use.
Frankly, No one is forcing anyone to use a specific gender. It's the corporations and governments causing division.
Just because the highest rule/norm is to _leave others alone_, I don't have to engage in anywhich insane delusion presented. I can tell people off or refuse to engage in rituals I don't approve of.
1) reality: people concerned with 2+ genders make statements about the world that are incorrect.
2) these people emphatically _aren't_ "self-identifying" -- they are shoving such "identifications" onto others, insisting that those others treat them differently.
So yeah, we can all be free to discriminate everywhich way: them giving me crap for refusing to use someone's _preferred_ gender; me asking them to take their degenerate delusions elsewhere.

The problem, in my view is that they want to regulate other peoples speech by forcing you to say mam when you are inclined to say dude.
Libertarians care about being able to say what they want.

Do I have the liberty to NOT call a man identifying as a woman a woman? If you try to impose on my freedom/reality in this regard, or try to force my children to play your game, that's where I have a problem.
