Totally respect the brand’s build and reputation, but I regard a Rolex like a pair of Air Jordans and feel it costs way too much just to look like everyone else…

I completely agree with you on Rolex. Do you dabble in vintage? This is in part why I like hunting for classics due to the unique nature of an older and hard to find piece. Very cool on the next one, excited to see what it is
I was a vintage dealer through Covid. Sold my stake in the business to my partner… but yes, I like lots of vintage stuff 💪🏼

I was looking at G-shocks last month. Any specific recommendations for models/features?
I am no expert. I always wanted a G Shock when I was younger but couldn’t afford it. So I just bought a black g shock when I was on my honeymoon. It is perfect for me, alarm and stopwatch are my go to.
Maybe someone else could chime in with more specifics!?

Love it. Looks like some decent prices on eBay. I’ve also purchased often from buyee.jp directly from Japan. It’s like eBay in Japan, a few nuances in bidding and shipping to US but I’ve had nothing but positive purchases from there and you can find some very very cool pieces.

I agree that most of the modern Rolexes are gaudy. Lone exception for the simple SS explorer.

TBH, check out the Tudor Black Bay 36 - to me, that’s the true modern day explorer… I love that as an everyday beater watch.
