What's already illegal?

Bitcoin, Monero, crypto are ultimately black market money. Those are the only markets that are permissionless. If you are going to follow all laws for a transaction, there is no advantage they bring over fiat in the white market. And if there is any remnant advantage remaining, it will fade with time as regulation increases on crypto.

That's my point. You're saying there will be mass adoption of these things despite them being black market money. My point is that I don't think so unless fiat becomes so bad that people want to take that risk, and I think that's only likely once inflation is maybe +50%/y or cbdc's make purchasing stuff you want difficult enough to risk prison for

I agree with you though about your last part. Ironically the better things are the less need there is for crypto. The harder the state squeezes the more transactions spill over to black markets and truly permissionless crypto.

If the black market grows enough, mass adoption is possible.

At the moment crypto is too hard to use for most people who just wanna order a small amount of bud.
