Sucks that you can't fully own your computer games. I would love to someday play multiplayer AoE with my 5 sons without spending $300+ on a single game. We've been living in the "you'll own nothing" epoch for a while.

Yes we’ve been in the sharing (streaming) economy where nothing is truly yours. I’ve personally been thinking about grabbing an old iPod classic for music.

Couldn't you get a hard copy of one of the older expansions and have a LAN game? Last I played was AoE2 HD with African Kingdoms, but I still have my disks with Age of Kings and Age of Conquerors.
I think the Good Old Games (GOG) store specializes in DRM free games.
