I held my student for five minutes as he sobbed in my arms. He told me of the derogatory, racist slurs and comments he had recieved during his lunch recess. Words do far more damage than fists. Sometimes, I lose faith in humans. Today, was one such day.

Once you hear these words, they can never be taken back. It's like crumpling a piece of paper. No matter how hard you try, you can never smooth it back out.

Yes, this is true. Resilience and an understanding of the dark parts that lay in everyone, are important lessons to learn. Sometimes, I just wish they happened a little later.
