Women are more easily influenced by culture, propaganda, advertisements, peers, and opinions. Not all... Don't hate, ladies.
You can see it in children - this is just a trend, but instinct is very evident. Little boys couldn't care less what you think, they want their toy and that toy is the only thing that exists in their world ; little girls look straight into your eyes to see if you approve, before playing.
I observed this over and over as a teacher. The instinct doesn't go away as adults - it just gets more options for how it gets expressed.
