How to kill nostr:
Discussion
“Ours”
This won’t kill nostr. Value for value just makes no sense. Would you start a coffee shop and hand out coffee for whatever the customer cares to pay for it and expect the shop to survive? Nostr doesn’t depend on charitable donations to content creators
Caffè Sospeso, Naples, Italy
Caffè sospeso, or "suspended coffee," is a tradition where customers pay in advance for an extra coffee, which can later be claimed by someone in need. This practice has spread globally, promoting small acts of kindness in cafés worldwide.
One World Cafe – Salt Lake City, Utah, USA
One of the pioneers of the pay-what-you-can model, One World Cafe allowed patrons to pay what they felt their meal was worth or volunteer in exchange for food. The café emphasized organic and locally sourced ingredients, fostering a sense of community and shared responsibility.
The Vault – Valley City, North Dakota, USA
The Vault is a self-service coffee shop without any staff. Customers serve themselves and pay by placing money in a till, operating entirely on the honor system. Interestingly, the owners reported that they earned 15% more than expected, attributing this success to the honesty of their tight-knit community.
Let me know if you need more.
If this is such a great business model then why do 9.999% of businesses set prices?
Nobody said it's a great business model. I'm just showing you that they exist same as v4v. You don't have to use either one yet you're wrong about v4v.
If v4v was working so well you wouldn’t have people on nostr consistently complaining that people don’t zap enough
It does work well, it's just the value of social media content generally is very low.
This whole conversation is completely missing the point. The point is that reproduction of digital stuff has zero cost, or in other words: there is no scarcity and thus no way for a real market price to form.
Because those people should get a fucking job to earn the money to buy Bitcoin. Some of us have been zapping for a couple of years now without ever bitching about not receiving enough (free money). The v4v model creates better content, it's that simple.
Exact same argument against the welfare state that continues to be abused daily. If people don’t have to spend then most won’t and you’re depend on large donations from those who will to cover the cost of those who don’t
Sometimes I believe we can't have pretty things because we're f...g morons. 🤷 Time will tell.
One of the biggest travesties of the 21st century is the absurd misconception that “content” is free.
Content isn't free, but copying content is free.
Indeed. Creation and performance has a cost; making digital copies does not, even though the information being copied clearly has value to the person copying it or they would not copy it.
We choose how to pay for it, even if we don't know.
and the idea that content "enriches" your life as knowledge, inspiration or enlightenment.
probably driven by Boomers
