I remember that Twitter had some plans to remove likes and also to not show the number of followers on each profile. If that had happened no one would have felt the need to replicate these features on Nostr.
Discussion
people love vanity metrics and KPIs š¤·āāļø
Ok, think about this use case, I agree with what someone posted, or I want to show my support to that note. BUT I do not want to write anything, in other case I would be just saying only one word.
I would like to have a way to do that with the least resistance.
The only way around likes is doing 1 sat Zaps, with Amethyst and Alby is frictionless, but not sure if anyone has sats to spend.
What to do then?
"like" is the most deceptive form of communication ever, zaps are 100x better, but what if "like" meant keeping a backup of your message as well?
Is it possible to impl in nostr? I'm guessing yes, the question is, has anyone thought of this before?
Interesting idea
I think this was also the initial idea with likes on Twitter. They were supposed to be personal "bookmarks", not public numbers, but something got lost in translation. I think I read something from nostr:npub1sg6plzptd64u62a878hep2kev88swjh3tw00gjsfl8f237lmu63q0uf63m about this at some point.
I do use like half the time to bookmark it and other times because I just like it and no other reasons to it
I think there's value in both public and private bookmarks. Likes are similar to public bookmarks. Displaying the count is a separate issue.
Is a zap thatās worth $0.0003 any different to a like, however with extra metadata, failure chance, and just effective noise on the lightning network?
Certainly could change as BTC value increases. Iām actually fearful now we donāt have enough Bitcoin decimal points.
good
Iā¦appreciate what you just said.
It would be nice if the people who develop clients for Nostr would break the mold and make those "dark features" optional or, even better, remove it entirely from their clients.
I talk about it here. Really wish for people to take this seriously:
This is good stuff
Great read #[3]ā. Thinking about all the ideas you bring forward.
#[2]ā damus is exploring

Fyi #[4]ā implemented remove reactions setting, and you can test out today.
Remove like (only) is on Iris board as well: https://github.com/irislib/iris-messenger/issues/290
Thankful Twitter didnāt then, it was time for Nostr. What a magnificent sacrifice
The people implimenting features in nostr clients shoukd know this. What theyre doing is equivalent to altoins; Twitter is Bitcoin and Damus and Plebstr are bCash andā¦pick any one you like.
Imagination has always been in short supply, and this is unlikely to change, ever.
I've also been trained to wipe my behind after a poo. I'm going to keep some things and I will after careful contemplation eliminate some others.
I wonder if people would respond to notes more if easy interaction with notes wasn't only one press away.
They would.
Definitely, one of the worst ideas which contributes to inflated egos and ridiculous discussions. Likes, followers, and the growing trend of reactions.
I accidentially liked, but I rather agree.
#[2]ā what about removing follower and like metrics? Rather show answer count, avg char count per answer and std dev š
... and the world would be a better place.

I would remove it on nostr cause I guess itās pointless tbh

š¤ Hiding your follower count but still seeing others - would you use it?
Or would you like to hide both?

Didnt Instagram remove like counts at one point?
