Is anyone building this yet?

90% of internet users only read and never post.

I do wonder when those numbers started going up. I'm thinking post-lockdowns.

Those areusers who are about to leave social media altogether, is my guess.

Lurkr

We used to call them leeches.

I liked people being shamed as leeches for not contributing, we should go back to that model

Leechr

you can kind of already do this in Nostur with all the right toggles but might not be a bad idea to have a “lurker” mode where its all set up for you

I think that lurking is incentivized by the hell of kyc and mail registration in closed platforms. NOSTR fixes this.

Ha. I was just thinking about doing something like this once I'm done with school to learn the basics of Nostr development. Honestly, there are a lot of times when I'd like to just have a minimal read experience. My vision is a feed app that maximizes privacy for those who don't necessarily want everything to be public (as mentioned here). I imagine this could be modified to be embedded in a web page too and have custom parameters (like only showing notes from a specific npub(s)).

This may also be beneficial for those who have lower end devices or slower connections. I haven't used Nostr with such limitations so I'm not sure.

Pretty sure this is already done. Just login with your public key instead of your private one.

Apps like Nostur also provide an anon gues account.

I hope this is not a critique. Imagine how trashed the internet would be when the other 90% would ell post a comment today 🫣

Great idea… I reckon most clients could create Lurker mode easily too

you can already login Amethyst and most other clients using someone else's npub, something that could be recommended for starting users so that they have decent experience until they decide to interact more

I especially like the name

Nice

The thing is, Lurkers want to write data, specifically to keep bookmarks, so a npub read only client isn't optimal...
