I tried to set up #zaps but it just won't work. Just like I can't get Nostr to work on my desktop at all, this system doesn't seem to work for me either.

Seriously, until the issues of KYC and excessively complex systems are solved, Bitcoin will not be adopted by most people. I'm a tech savvy person and even I'm dumbfounded by crap like this...

Alright:

1. What client are you using to access Nostr and what device?

2. What zap wallet are you using? I don't see one available on your profile to test zap.

3. Did you find a good nonKYC exchange yet?

1. I use Amethyst on Android, I've tried multiple clients on PC but not one of them worked for me

2. I installed Breez but can't figure out a way to link it

3. Unfortunately not. Every one I've found has fallen through for one reason or another

Ok, amethyst is great, stick with that unless you want to use primal with built in wallet (it will ask for email confirmation but just create a temp email with https://temp-mail.org/ ). Regarding a zap wallet, im not sure breez integrates too easily. For receiving zaps, minibits is an ecash option that gives you an lightning lnurl address to save to your amethyst profile. For NoKYC sats, i would highly recommend robosats. If you are new to btc, don't mix your nokyc with kyc coins.

Maybe consider using garnet. It’s a fork of amethyst with monero tips baked in. You can get monero nonkyc through haveno or swapping other cryptocurrencies.

Sounds like a decent option long-term, but at the moment, I'm just focused on ways to obtain Bitcoin without KYC or sending hundreds by mail.

Yeah the listings on haveno right now are not ideal. There’s also xmrbazaar.com if you have something to sell

FYI Garnet supports both zaps and xmr tips

If you still would rather not use Garnet, add a Monero address somewhere on your profile and Garnet users can one-click Monero tip any of your posts. You can convert them to Bitcoin down the road if you want.

Thanks for the tip, I'm not specifically loyal to Amethyst or Bitcoin itself, just trying to focus on getting this sorted for now. I might give Garnet a whirl down the road, I do like what Monero is doing.

No prob, just wanted to let you know there is free crypto tips on the table by simply adding an xmr addy to your profile, even if you don't want to use Garnet it works

Makes sense to me, I know a lot of people only use Monero so it couldn't hurt! I'll try looking into it over the next week if I have the time.

Currently you can only run A or G. You either need to uninstall A or wait for the next release of G.

You can just add your XMR address in your profile and people will be able to tip you.

Oh just in the description? Sounds good, thanks!

Yea, just look at my profile as an example 👌

So, I couldn't figure out where to get Garnet and I don't see a field where I can paste my Monero address, but I did create a Monero wallet to use for this.

Here’s a link to the releases page for garnet: https://github.com/retrnull/garnet/releases

Make sure to download the mainnet version of the app

I couldn't seem to add the repository in F-Droid so I tried through Obtainium, yet it was registering as Amethyst and wouldn't let me install 🙃

You can't install Garnet and Amethyst at the same time. Going to be fixed next update hopefully.

Not sure what client you use. But use a client like Nostrudel or Coracle to edit you profile and add an address to it

Does it work right yet? I remember in v0.2.0 it was not parsing out correctly.

Yes, v0.3.0 has been out for a few weeks already 👌

Ah okay, I'll see if I can get Minibits set up. I saw a lot of recommendations to use Wallet of Satoshi for this but it's custodial and I can't get it in the US, apparently.

vpn gets you places the USA sanctions my man, you gotta lot of homework on your hands already so i dont want to overload you, but we're pretty nice here on nostr and will help when you need it. You already seem to have a mindset for privacy first which is good, i wish i would have started that way. Everything else comes eventually at the right time.

Alright, it looks like I got it set up. Quick question: if I receive sats from this, can I transfer them from minibits to another wallet like, say, Cake Wallet (which is the main wallet app I want to use)? I noticed minibits mentioned part of it is custodial as well.

You should yes, sent you some, test it out. There might be a transfer minimum. You might want to wait until you have a certain amount, then use something like trocador to convert lightning to monero for cake wallet, but once again, getting ahead of myself.

Oh, and on another note, I found a web client that seems to work for me (Coracle). It's not the prettiest GUI I've ever seen but the more appealing ones like Primal or Snort just don't want to work for me for whatever reason hah
