One has been there for more than 100 years, the other didn’t.
One will be there in 100 years the other one didn’t.

Every time I see a Bitcoiner post comparisons like that I wonder how they justify the financing of historic buildings with the mindset of a modern Bitcoiner.
I might be completely off here, but in my imagination churches and other great buildings like town halls or train stations from hundreds of years ago were financed by "gathering" money from the population. Either by tax, fear (religion) or other ways of suppression (slavery of all kinds).
What do you think, #[1]?
I mean, sure those buildings are wonderful and timeless pieces of art. But to look like that they consume lots of work and money...

Renaissance Italy got its wealth mostly from trading, shipping, (full reserve) banking and engineering. They got filthy rich and could spend like crazy. I doubt there was a lot of force involved in building the Duomo, much more likely a lot of artisans got rich contributing.
But again, I wasn't there at the time.
I don't know, I wasn't there at the time. But in general, people only endure as much as they allow their overlords to get away with.

The Medicis, hmm. Short look into Wikipedia: clever traders but later on also bankers, politicians, lords, popes and kings. 🤷🏻♀️ Let's hope the money spent as Patrons came from trading then 😉
The Medicis were basically behind one of the soundest monies ever in the Florin which is a big part of what allowed the Renaissance to happen, and when the money debased so did they - tale as old as time my friend 🤙
100% The Florin was the cornerstone of the Italian Renaissance. Hardest and most trusted money of the time, mostly due to the fact the Medicis refused to debase it at all costs for 3 to 400 years (until they eventually did, which led to their downfall)
