I need to think about it some more but my initial thoughts are, this is a bit confusing for people. I think, that the text for each of these may be a bit mis-leading but I applaud the efforts here and I think amethyst may be the first client to really figure this out.

I think instead of saying stuff like "these need to be public relays" it could say "preferred contact relay(s), and the clients can decide what it all means based on Nip11 specs?.. for example. Many of us use nostr.wine. if I want my inbox relay to prefer nostr.wine, and a secondary of nos.lol, I want to signal to other clients that if they have a subscription to wine, just use that. And only use nos if they don't. I don't want to use public relays at all if I can help it..

This type of thing, I think can be ironed out further, may take some iterations .. also, not sure why but I'm having some perf slowdown too in this build.. 👀

Interesting. So the relay setting is really not for you but for everybody else. Maybe the "public" is not clear enough. Public means anyone can download events from there, regardless if it is paid or not. Nostr.wine is pay-to-write, but anyone can get events from it, which is great for outbox but it is not going to work for inbox (because of the pay to write).

I was going to make a feature request to help these concerns. Can Amethyst default to some relays while users get more educatation?

We can and we do (we use the general list), but default server services are VERY centralizing. Incentives are set to keep using those instead of learning to be free. We have to find a good balance between the two.
