Hey, this is my first post here on Nostr (or maybe it’s Damus?)

Honestly, I’m still figuring out which is which — but I wanted to jump in and get started.

The reason I’m here is simple: I no longer trust that traditional social media platforms are permanent. After 10 years of building, sharing, and helping others, I lost an account without warning. No explanation. Just gone. And I know I’m not the only one.

That’s why I’m giving this space a try. I want to keep creating, sharing, and connecting — but this time in a place that respects creators a bit more.

So what do I do?

I run a marketing and media business, helping companies build strong websites, rank higher on Google with SEO, and bring their story to life through video and photography. I film, edit, design, and promote — all with the goal of helping people get seen and grow.

Looking forward to seeing what this community becomes.

Hey welcome! Nostr is the protocol (much like https) and Damus is the client (application that utilizes the protocol). There are other clients as well that you can use on Nostr: primal, Nostur, jumble, nostrudel, amethyst, and many more. Damus is my favorite though.

Set up your lightning wallet so people can send you zaps and you can zap back

creators on nostr don't really have any special privilege, there is no marketing funds flowing from advertisers to incentivise the platforms to monetize content

it's also quite an immature protocol still, many of the clients are quite buggy

one thing it does have is tight integration with the lightning network, so receiving payments is very low friction, assuming you can convert your fiat into bitcoin and move it to a lightning wallet.

i know of several creators on nostr who are mostly self funded and don't really gain much exposure or get much sales due to what they publish on nostr

don't want you to be hoping for anything that isn't likely to happen. nostr is still very new and the focus of much of development funding for it is not being well directed nor getting good results.

if you produce video content, there are several nostr-connected video streaming services, and it isn't difficult to charge subscriptions for viewing content on it. the potential of nostr with its lightning integration is great but unfortunately not well realised yet. there is something of focus on censorship resistance and not a strong focus on enabling business outside of the silos

Also what is wallet( app) are you using? Some of them require that you put some Bitcoin in it before lightning can be used

Oh I only connected the main wallet in the profile - I created a new one

Coinos the one that comes with the account - my apologies I’m not aware of the other wallets . Not sure if I need hem or if I will open any others.
