What we need is a verifiably fair lottery.

Not for gambling, mind you.

For choosing our public servants.

I bet we'd get a better outcome with randos selected for short terms than with people elected in a popularity contest.

Clearly we would based on current observations.

Just take turns, round-robin?

I just made a post about voting privileges 😂

we should also apply that to Bitcoin soft-forks

SSN = in lottery for potential public service (similar id in other countries)

It would be the most democratic.

Somebody said somewhere that picking names out of a phone book (this was years ago) would give a better result than ... voting? or something like that.

Yes please

FUCK, i got senate duty

it is often missed that our right to jury trial is one of the most democratic parts of our system. drawing lots is the best way to keep narcissists from taking over a system, while ensuring that the citizenry is capable of fulfilling this responsibility.

How many people do you know that try to get out of Jury Duty?

true, but that is mostly a failure of civic education.

Are you sure? If you randomly select someone from the whole population you could end up with a demented ruler. 🤔 Nevermind

also, I remember seeing things use block hashes for randomness. I don't remember the attack angles, but could this be a thing?

Definitely have a higher variance in outcomes. I’m not sure if that is a good thing. I think what it would result in is more power in staffers and executive agencies who would provide “advice” to the new guy.

how will you prevent radicals/fascists from applying?

And what about their regular jobs and pay?
