I'm no coder, so this may be a stupid question, but do you think the issue is more just generally with the Android OS or a problem in the Amethyst code that you just haven't put your finger on yet?
It could be both. There are too many things going on when scrolling.. so.. it could even be a library.

How many milliseconds is your scroll event handling code taking? More than 16ms?
It's good for me from the main release.
I wonder if there is anything that is blocking the thread.
I've noticed that on the debug build, as building from source, scrolling and navigating is noticably slower.
I'm not sure if that is common for Kotlin and Java builds. I know for other languages, the debug build can often be slower as they don't have the build optimizations. I haven't yet dug into it more yet.

Shooting in the dark. Could it be related to jpegs/clips loading and suddenly getting bigger on loaded? If it is possible maybe preload the size of jpegs/clips so frame dont change once jpegs/clips are fully loaded.
Might not help with hickups, but could make better flow if unstable connection.

I usually get scrolling hiccups when my connection is really bad/slow. sometimes it hiccups so hard that it crashes.
