Can an Ozzie confirm this for me :

Is there a policy in Austrailia that forbids farmers/landowners to clear brush and deadwood from their land ?

Yes, there are laws that prevent the removal of native vegetation. Mainly protecting large trees and larger areas of native bush. For example, a farmer would have to submit an application to clear native vegetation just to expand farmland, but maybe not for a fire break. It can be fairly restrictive, but largely ignored unless done on a large scale. Hypothetically, I may have cleared native vegetation from my place and out on the verge for "fire reduction".

Thank you.

Would it be fair to say that "hypothetically" , one would have to break the law in order to reduce the risk of a brush fire on their land ?

The laws may be different in other states but where I am you are allowed to clear a certain amount for fire prevention.

Okay , thanks for that . Everything except for large trees .

Okay so as the Aussie here... I can confirm that it is not a policy.

If you don't want the land to catch on fire you clear it, it's more a policy that you should do it. There are a few different ways this then happens.

One is prescribed burn off's to get rid of some of it before summer hits it lower the risk in high fire zones also 😊

Thank you . However this is at odds with other comments in this thread , and I'm slightly confused . Is there perhaps different laws for different parts of the country or something like that ?

Australia does have its own version of states that have a level of autonomy similar to the USA so it could be.
