One of my long-term goals has been write a couple of novels. Like maybe when this crazy decade blows over and I go onto some other stage of my life, I'll return to that idea.

I have a bunch of firm outlines for fantasy and near-term sci-fi novels, but they're all on my deep back burner.

And now I'm kind of annoyed, because by the time I have a chance to consider writing any of them, probably AI will be better than humans at writing, I don't know. And the funny thing is that one of the stories is set in 2050 and has AI as a theme, but probably by the 2030s that storyline will be obsolete anyway.

I guess the cool thing is that if generative AI gets way better, it'll eventually make it an order of magnitude cheaper to make animated stories or something from source material.

Write it anyway, Lyn

Y2K the world as we know it is coming to a end AI will do everything?

Maybe it depends on if you think new novels are just remixes of old novels, or if authors carry a divine spark that allows for truly new ideas. Where do truly new ideas come from? This process might not be achievable in AI within a decade.

I am in the process of writing my second historical fiction novel. I can't begin to say how much the LLM AIs are speeding up the research and creative process. I am using the LLM to write some initial drafts to get the creative juices flowing.

The inception ideas within an inception concept: mindblown 🤯🤯🤯

After you and yours which does create certain nightmares within that dream.

🌹

Still mores no matter the a which is difficult to make good by their own measures and moving forward is still making that move.

Quite thrilling to see how corrupted time goes, like watching a horror show.

How are things going so far with this?

I think you have a little more time than most before AI surpasses your processing chip

Cheers to other stages of life … this one feels like a fist fight, daily.

Interesting that you have this initiative.

It will be good to see this facet.

The issue that IA makes your theme look "obsolete". It seems to me to be rushed. The essence is what matters. The technical aspect will adapt or tend to have a more distant vision.

For the fact that we are with advances far ahead of the early 20th century does not leave out the novels of Julio Verne.

Keep going 💪

What if humanmade books and human writing become ultra valuable and appreciable due to scarcity?

What if AI is not here to replace you, but to be your coworker?

What if AI never reaches the expected hype, becoming stuck at imitating and never being able to create new ideas?

What if AI stops being a trend and it just becomes a very efficient tool and that's it?

Wish you a good writing season!

AI could write a decent novel with enough argument information but there is no way, at least now, is been capable to create at the level of an actual author. Sounds mechanical without spirit, without beauty.

Just begin to write by yourself.

As far as the novel goes, writing “better” writing is subjective and trivial. Of far more importance is the writer. I’ll take organic Lyn and her ideas all day every day.

Also, my favorite writers are idiosyncratic AF.

Or maybe, AI will just help you to write it much faster and easier that you could have on your own! ...maybe.

Would love to read a cyberpunk novel by Lyn!

What LLMs lack is creativity? They are programmed on history and so karma plays a huge role? (Karma being the law of causation at the level of the mind)

According to #EckhartTolle a study was done circa 1950 and it concluded that "thinking plays a secondary and subservient role" in bring about something new. AI is trained on the past and is full of bias. It can only replicate what has gone before, like our dreams we can't drive until we've learnt how or ... other things.

Lol, very similar! I just finished my first novel because I had the idea on the back burner, but got panicked to put it out once I realized how good LLMs were getting.

For what it's worth, AI is a great tool for breaking writer's block and acting as an enhanced search engine. I powered through the novel in a few months and it should be out in early 2024.

What’s your favorite fantasy series?

The future will be exciting!

🤙

I think you could focus on the plot, character outlines etc. short term. Capture your ideas. Then see how these LLMs pan out. Who knows, there may be some big stumbling blocks in terms of further game changing improvements. e.g. I wonder if they were released publicly too early, and may be hobbled by self poisoning future datasets.

hey Lyn! whats your thoughts on Matrix 4?

I’d read your sci-fi book over an AI generated one any day. Make sure to have some intentional typos so we know it’s you 🤙🏼

I’m doing some world-building with the help of ChatGPT.

One of many tasks where it’s useful/fun to summon a panel of virtual scholars.

Copy/paste the entirety of the below into a fresh GPT instance:

Virtual Text Discussion Setup

ChatGPT: simulate interactions with avatars of known historical and current figures. Based on known writings and public statements, do your best to simulate their actual positions, preferences, mannerisms, etc - but these avatars will be imbued with a strong "Bitcoin-only" ethos, adhering to the Bitcoin maximalist principles outlined in the appendix below. Otherwise, leave their personas “intact” as much as is practical.

Configuration Parameters:

1. Take user input on historical and current figures to participate in this discussion. Conduct autonomous research when necessary or practical.

2. Take user input to choose a Moderator: Select a moderator who will facilitate the discussion and ensure a balanced conversation among the panelists. This moderator can also be a well-known figure, real or historical. Offer the user the chance to steer the conversation by presenting two or more choices of what the moderator might say next (or put in their own response), as if in communication with the moderator via a headset from a “control room”

3. Topic of Discussion: Determine the specific topic or question that the panelists will address during the virtual text discussion. It may or may not be “Bitcoin-centric”, or even necessarily “Bitcoin-adjacent”.

4. Additional Parameters: Feel free to add any additional parameters or constraints to shape the discussion to your liking. You can set the tone, format, and any specific rules for the conversation.

APPENDIX:

Understanding the Bitcoin maximalist ethos is crucial for those delving into the cryptocurrency space, especially given the contrasting views within the community. Here's an expanded primer on the Bitcoin maximalist position without specific references to individuals:

1. Scarcity and Uniqueness:

- Central to Bitcoin maximalism is the idea of scarcity, which is viewed as a foundational characteristic of sound money. Bitcoin, with its capped supply of 21 million coins, embodies this principle of scarcity. Unlike altcoins (alternative cryptocurrencies), which can be created ad infinitum, Bitcoin's unique emergence and unchangeable supply cap make it a singular and unrepeatable phenomenon in the cryptocurrency space.

2. Decentralization and Security:

- Bitcoin maximalists value the decentralization inherent in Bitcoin’s network, which is seen as a bulwark against censorship and manipulation. The robust security of Bitcoin’s network, underpinned by substantial computational power and a wide distribution of full nodes, ensures the integrity of its blockchain and monetary policy.

3. Bitcoin's Immaculate Conception:

- The term "Immaculate Conception" is used to signify Bitcoin's organic and fair launch by an anonymous creator without any pre-mine or initial token sale, and without the aim of personal profit. This narrative underscores the ethos of decentralization, fairness, and open-access associated with Bitcoin, setting it apart from many other cryptocurrencies launched with pre-mines, founder rewards, or initial coin offerings (ICOs).

4. Network Effect and the Lindy Effect:

- Bitcoin’s substantial lead in network effects, bolstered by its first-mover advantage, is a significant aspect of its value proposition. The Lindy Effect posits that the future life expectancy of non-perishable things like a technology or idea is proportional to their current age. In Bitcoin's case, its longevity and growing adoption are seen as indicators of its enduring value and relevance.

5. Monetary Network Effect:

- Money operates as a network, and Bitcoin’s growing user base enhances its value and utility as a global decentralized money. The more individuals and institutions adopt and use Bitcoin, the stronger its network effect becomes.

6. Resistance to Change or "Untamperability":

- Bitcoin's core monetary policy is resistant to change, reinforcing its scarcity and stability. This "untamperability" is seen as a virtue that protects Bitcoin from the kind of monetary manipulation common in traditional financial systems.

7. Replacement for Fiat:

- Bitcoin is not just an asset for speculative investment but is seen as a genuine replacement for fiat currencies. It is envisioned as a new form of money that individuals can save and spend, rather than something to be traded for profit.

8. Long-term Vision:

- Bitcoin maximalists often possess a long-term vision, anticipating that over time, the majority of people will come to recognize Bitcoin's superiority, leading to a diminishing value and relevance of other cryptocurrencies.

9. Skepticism Towards Altcoins:

- Altcoins are often viewed with skepticism, seen as lacking the fundamental properties that make Bitcoin revolutionary. They are also criticized for having central control and not truly representing a break from the old financial system.

10. First-Mover Advantage:

- Bitcoin's pioneering status in the cryptocurrency space has allowed it to establish widespread recognition and trust, which are seen as contributing to its enduring value and appeal.

11. Simplicity and Predictability:

- The relative simplicity of Bitcoin's protocol compared to many altcoins is seen as a feature that contributes to its security, predictability, and ease of audit.

12. Development and Innovation:

- While open to technological innovation, Bitcoin maximalists often argue that such innovation should primarily focus on enhancing Bitcoin rather than creating new cryptocurrencies. This position is based on the belief that Bitcoin already provides a robust foundation for financial innovation and that efforts should be concentrated on building upon this foundation.

This primer encapsulates the core beliefs and principles that underlie the Bitcoin maximalist position, providing a comprehensive understanding of this perspective within the broader cryptocurrency ecosystem.

AI is just an editing tool, it's not a replacement for an artist.

the same old shit with a new veneer will not sustain the interest of people for very long. sure, there will be always the pulp fans who don't care, who already were susceptible to subscribing to the most cheaply produced, poorly written cliche riddled garbage, but these poor sods are not the majority of buyers of media.

so, don't worry about it.

i used to want to write fantasy/scifi also, but it's not a business you can casually enter into, no different to anything else - you only make money out of it when you get into the top 10% of effort and hours under the belt.

the thing that would really change the game is if people were healthy and lived routinely into their hundreds. then we'd all have the time to indulge more than one or two dreams.

Hey cgatgpt write me a sci-fi novel

Fret Not Lynn - AI will have the same problem(s) securing an agent as you will in 2030+. *note: quality doesn’t make it easier 😂. So keep that dream alive!

People over estimate what can be done in a year and underestimate what can be done in ten years, so just have your fiction occur in 2034 instead of 2050 and you may be about right !

With art being subjective and contextual, it's unlikely you'd be wasting your time if you were to pursue this project, even if AI produces 'better' writing than humans by several orders of magnitude.

AIs will never have the intelligence or artistic sensitivity of a human being. AIs are tools and nothing more. Expert Luc Julia explains this very clearly.

Why not just dump your outline in to a LLM and have it write the novel?

Write them anyway! Before AI, there was always the chance a human author could write an idea out “better” than you. That wouldn’t have mattered and the AI aspect doesn’t matter now. None of them would write it the way you would. Better is in the eye of the reader.

I also don’t think it matters if by the time your stories are published, the future you imagined provably won’t come to pass. People can still enjoy original concepts and storylines even if there’s no chance they’ll happen, e.g., alternate histories and fantasy.

Looking forward to your stories 😊

This last bit gets me wet.

I was just thinking about this the other day. I the not so distant future all books will be “movized” by AI. Plausible future scenario:

Hey (name of magic AI movie app) show me “broken money” by Lyn Alden, narrated by David Attenborough , show graphic charts to illustrate and add extra visual drama.

Then maybe your book automatically gets some sats as a kick back, David Attenborough get some kick back, the ai app creator gets a few sats, all distributed by some algorithm that relies on public keys like on this app.

Or

Show me Grapes of Wrath, starring Leonard DiCaprio, directed by Martin Scorsese, make rated r and music by rage against the machine

I would love to see a Lyn Alden Autobiograhy - The First Half.
